Date: 13.03.2012 Class: the 6th Lesson: The rooms of a house - revision Functions:The students will assimilate the terms associated to the rooms of a house. The students will aquire new terms regarding the things around the house. Vocabulary: kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, cooker, fridge, cupboard, plates, couch, TV, table, painting, toys, bed, wardrobe, sink, bathtub, toothbrush, toilet. Skills: listening, speaking, writing. Objectives: By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to: 1. Name the rooms of a house; 2. Name some things in each room of the house; 3. Enumerate some activities performed in each room of the house. Assumptions: 1. The pupils may already know the rooms of a house; 2. The pupils will have difficulties in retaining all the new words; 3. Not all the students will be able to aquire the terms associated with some activities realised in each room of the house. Anticipating problems: there might be vocabulary problems: patio, microwave. Solutions: - visual aids to help them remind the words; - explanation given by the teacher; - the use of words in sentences. Teaching aids: blackboard, flashcards, wallposter. - conversation - dialog - exercise Methods- conversation, observation, explanation, demonstration using the Lotus method. Time: 50 1. Warming-up: Aim: to prepare the pupils for the lesson Procedure: The teacher greets the pupils and asks them a few ordinary questions. (How are you today?/What is the weather like today??/What day is today?) Interaction: T-Ss Timing :2 2. Revising the last lesson Aim: to consolidate the terms associated with each member of a family. Procedure: Food and drinks. Teacher ask Ss to name some names of food and drinks in English. Ss are asked to tell their favourite food and drink. Interaction: T-Ss Time: 10 3. Lead in: Aim: to introduce the topic/ to set the context Procedure: The teacher asks the pupils: Where does a family live? Pupils will answer: In a house. The teacher continues : Today, well review the rooms of a house and what things we can find in each of them. Later well give examples of some activities that we can do in each room of the house. Practice: Listening- Speaking-Writing Aims: to rewind the words to the students - kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom. to assimilate the words refering to the rooms of the house; to aquire some new words refering to the things we find in each room. Procedure: The teacher will ask the students what are the rooms of a house. The pupils will name in English some of the rooms they know. The teacher will concentrate on eight rooms of a house: kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, study-room, garden, hall and patio. The teacher will show to the students the flashcards with each room, she ask Ss to name the rooms and asks them to give the name of the objects that are found in each room. The teacher shows a wallposter illustrating a house and the rooms of a house( kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, study-room, garden, hall and patio). The teacher will ask the students what objects can we find in the kitchen. The pupils will give several answers. The teacher will concentrate on cooker, fridge, cupboard, plates, stove, microwave, oven, sink. The teacher will ask the students what activities are realised in the kitchen. She will concentrate on cooking, having breakfast. She will show some images. The same activity will be repeated for living room, bedroom, bathroom, study-room, garden, hall and patio. Activities in living room: watching TV, reading a book. Activities in bedroom: get dressed, sleeping. Activities in bathroom: have a bath, wash your hands.
