Dear Parents/Carers

I am writing to you to update you regarding the incident which occurred yesterday. I
am sure you will appreciate that I cannot go into too much detail as this may
prejudice potential prosecution/school action.

The situation arose when a handwritten note was found which made specific threats
against the school. Although it was always likely to be a hoax as a result of a
malicious act by a student we followed normal procedures and informed the police.

From this point we followed police advice. The note claimed that a device had been
left in the production set in the hall/canteen. Police advice was to evacuate and
quarantine this area of the school and for the rest of the school to be open and
function as normal. We did this. As I explained yesterday we were only permitted to
re-occupy the hall at 3.20 p.m. As a result of this we were unable to run a lunch
service for Years 9-11. We could not run a snack service in another part of the
school as we were not able to access the Kitchen area to remove food for sale
elsewhere. We also hoped that the Hall would have been cleared for use much
sooner than it was, this would have allowed me to run a lunch service during the last
period of the day.

I am glad to say that the person responsible has been identified and that due
process will now take place.

As ever the welfare and health and safety of students and staff is paramount. We
were able to follow police advice and ensure that students were safe and calm at all
times. I was gratified by their mature and patient attitude during this disruptive and
anxious time.

School security is always a priority and I will of course review our school security and
protocols in light of this.

Can I also take the opportunity to thank all of you who have contacted the school to
express your support for the way we dealt with the situation, it is really appreciated.

Yours sincerely
Mr. A. J. Corish
Headteacher
