Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month, from September through May, at 7p.m.

Dues are $20 single and $30 family for each meeting year
of September through May. Bring them to a meeting or
send them to Dixie Lowin, 2028 W. Ranch Road, Mequon,
WI 53092.
Luther Manor Exhibit
The club maintains a rotating display of prints at Luther
Manor and members are encouraged to bring 8 X 10 prints
to any and all meetings for display. Give prints to Pete
Koenig, who maintains the display.
Image specs: resize images to 1920 x 1200 x 100 for
display through the clubs projector, which has a resolution
of 1920 x 1200.
From the Prez.I hope you all realize what an
outstanding history the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee
has. From its conception in 1903 (yes, were 114 years old)
we have been an active and leading club in the whole area,
and probably in the state as well. We have had many
nationally known photographers in our club, recognized by
the names of some of our medal awards.
In 1934 we were one of the charter clubs when the
Photographic Society of America (PSA) was organized and
are now recognized as one of the very few charter clubs
still in existence. And when the Wisconsin Area Camera
Clubs Organization (WACCO), was formed, we were also
in there as a charter member. (Yes, we deliberately ended
with the O for organization instead of an A for association,
because it would draw more attention to be known as being
wacco.)

ventures. We all have much work to do to maintain our
reputation. And to do this, we need members who are
willing to step forward and take on responsibilities in the
club.
I have asked three of our members to be part of a
nominating committee to recruit viable candidates for the
many positions that have to be filled. Im hoping that if
you are contacted by any of the three, you will seriously
consider serving in a position to help the club grow.
Our April meeting is the time for all of you to bring your
images for the year-end competition. I hope that most of
you will have sent images to Sandra before the meeting or
will bring them on a flash drive or CD for her to take home
with her.
The main part of the meeting will be images from the
members. I want to clarify the topic of the images. It is not
limited to our outings. It can be images of any photo
ventures you have gone on during the year. This should be
a very enjoyable show, as you have all gone to some place
to take pictures that go beyond your backyard.
Before showing images, we will have a business meeting,
at which time we will collect the survey sheets (or you
might have e-mailed them to Pauline). We will have
reports from each of the current officers. The nominating
committee will provide us with a list of candidates for the
many positions that must be filled. We also have to decide
how we want to have our awards banquet. And we will
set a date sometime after the banquet for those interested in
planning next years calendar.
I hope to continue having a column in each of our
newsletters, and I hope that next year the new president
will think about doing the same. Lets all remember our
great heritage and make it a priority to keep Photo
Pictorialists of Milwaukee moving in a strong direction.

Monthly Topics
September 1The Things I Did Last Summer. A fun
photo meeting. Bring up to 6 images on a thumb drive,
formatted as noted above.
October 1
Constructive feedback as a tool for improvement. Each
member should select 2 of their best (competition-worthy)
images and send them to Sandra Weber in advance of the
meeting.
November 3
Physician and photographer Dr. Yong-ran Zhu will speak
on The Right Attitude on Life and Photography. Dr. Zhu
is a fine art photographer specializing in large format work
who integrates his life vision and his art. He will bring
some of his work. Club members are welcome to invite
guests.
December 1
Our annual holiday party. Bring your own liquid
refreshment and a dish to pass. Our entertainment will be
members images from outings and trips. Send up to 12
images to Sandra Weber in advance.
January 5
Wisconsin Print Circuit judging is our annual opportunity
to judge the work of other Wisconsin camera clubs and an
excellent time to see the work of other clubs. Our prints
will be judged by another club, and they are due to Richard
Yehl by Saturday, November 5.
February 2
Before, During and After is a chance for members to
show an image as taken, the final image, and the process
that took place between the two.
March 2
Macro Photography, Still Life images, Know Your
Camera, and Post-processing with Photoshop will
involve four stations staffed by Sandra Weber, Kathy
Braun, Pete Koenig, and Phil Block, respectively. Members
will spend half an hour at each station, rotating among
them. Bring your camera and tripod for this night of hands-
on learning.
April 6
Reminder: your prints and digitals for Mays
competition are due by the night of the April meeting,
along with completed scorecards for each submission
category. Youre encouraged to email your digital images
to Sandra beforehand. If you are bringing your digital
images April 6 on a flash drive, please try to bring them
early before the meeting starts. Sandra will be at Luther
Manor by 6:30pm. All digital photos emailed to Sandra
will be acknowledged as received with a return email.
Note the change in the Nature rules: Cultivated
flowers are allowed, in addition to wildflowers.
Also, bring your completed survey of what you liked and
disliked this year, and what you would like from the club
next year.
This meeting will include a fun photo show of our
images from your outings during the year. Send up to 10
images to Sandra Weber at least 3 days before the
meeting.
May 4
Year-end Competition. Images submitted at the April
meeting will be judged by members from other clubs. This
meeting will begin at 6:30, and we ask our members to
show respect for the judges by their silence.
May 18
Our year-end banquet. Bring your own liquid refreshment
and a dish to pass. Year-end awards will be distributed.

PPM Year End Competition. You will also find the entry
form/score card under the same Club Activities pull-down
menu. If you need extra entry forms/score cards, you can
print the form from the website.
WACCO spring competition: See link below for all the
information re: the May 6 competition. Deadline is April
15 to enter, pay, and upload digital images. Kathy Braun
can transport your print entries to the competition, if you
give them to her at the May 4 meeting. (The prints can be
your entries in the club competition.)

The 6th Annual WACCO exhibit will be Oct. 14-Dec. 2 at
The Blue (Reuss Federal Building downtown). Deadline for
submissions is Sept. 30, but youll want to submit
information about your framed print earlier, as WACCO
will be accepting a maximum of 90 pictures on a first
come, first served basis. Minimum size is a 16x20 frame,
but larger prints, sized 16 x 20 (not including the mat and
frame), are highly encouraged for this large exhibit space.
Image guidelines for 2017 were passed out at the March
meeting, and will soon be posted on the WACCO website.

Kenilworth Open Studios 11am-3pm Apr. 8. Explore
Kenilworth Square East at UWM a 6-floor industrial artist
studio space home to over 100 award-winning graduate
students and faculty of UWMs Peck School of the Arts.
See live art in the making. Guests will experience four
hours of art exhibitions, film screenings, live performances,
innovative demonstrations, and hands-on activities for

Boerner Botanical Gardens

outside as part of the Plein Air Milwaukee 2017 event.
Painters will be out May 11-17.
Also, watch artists make a painting in 2 hours in the
Quick Paint competition: May 13: along Brady St. and
May 14: along Prospect Ave. (between Juneau and North
Ave.) 8am-5pm.

Milwaukee County Zoo
Reduced admission Wednesdays for Milwaukee County
residents with ID is $8 adults; $5.50 ages 3-12. On other
days, Milwaukee County residents w/ID save $1.75 off
regular admission. No discounts on parking.

Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture Celebrate food
from around the world and at our own tables. Includes
sections on growing, transporting, cooking, eating, tasting,
and celebrating. Visitors will use all five senses as they
explore all things food. Cost, which includes admission to
the entire Museum and Planetarium, is $25 for adults, $20
seniors 65+, $18 for ages 5-13.
If you go on the first Thursday of the month (free day),
your only expense is $7 (adult); $6 (seniors), or $6 (youth)
for the special exhibit. Runs through July 19.
