Home automation

Abstract

Given the reduction in cost and power supply of wireless systems along with the increasing
demand for conserving energy when controlling consumer electronics and home appliances,
smart home automation systems are more popular than ever before. A home automation system
designed for reducing electricity consumption typically uses different sensors located in different
areas of the house that communicate with a process unit to control the lights, HVAC system,
consumer electronics, etc., so that the process unit turns these systems on only when needed.
Additionally, other automated tasks may include setting the HVAC to an energy saving setting
while the house is unoccupied, and restoring the normal setting when an occupant is about to
return. To optimize current home automation systems, it is proposed that by considering the
behavior of the residents inside a house, the power consumed on a daily basis will be
significantly reduced. Such a power reduction could be achieved by both the sensors that monitor
the motions of the residents inside a house and the adaptive control system that promptly adjusts
itself to the most efficient level to further reduce electricity consumption based on different
actions, habits and lifestyle of the residents.

Introduction

A home automation system may consist of automated control of lighting, HVAC, curtain or
blinds, security or surveillance system, garage door, etc. Houses with these systems are
extremely marketable for two main reasons. First, they enhance the comfort levels of their
occupants, for instance, by saving them the hassle of walking around the house to turn off
various systems in vacant rooms, and second, from an energy point of view, statistics show
significant energy conservation. When implementing a home automation system, choosing the
hardware and the communication protocol are the most important steps. There has been abundant
research on different technologies aiming to provide the capability of monitoring and controlling
the power consumption within household things. Home automation is not only design concept
now days. Home automation has direct impact on lifestyle of people. Goal of this automation is
controlling the elements (lights, fans, air conditioners) in the house/office. Several home
automation systems are developed. Different home automation systems were analyzed based on
technology used, processor or controller used. A digital door lock system was equipment that
used the digital information such as a secret code, semi-conductors, smart card, and finger prints
as the method for authentication instead of the legacy key system. As the door lock was the first
and last thing people come across in entering and leaving the home respectively. Automatic door
opening and closing is part of home automation.

Problem statement
Security monitoring system requires data transmission system fast receiving data and accurate at
a certain distance, so that users can place devices freely at important locations for the data
display receiver. In other words, this system must be portable and user friendly. Display system
is shown to be straightforward and easy to understand, so that users can take important
immediate action. The system must not be hacked by anyone. Monitoring and controlling the
appliances need some movement and physical contact. Thus, this will be a burden to disable
person especially for the disabled and elderly people.

Objective
To design a smart home automation system using voice recognition. The idea is to create smart
home systems that use secured password method as well as human voice as directive to activate
electrical appliances. Hence, voice will be used as input to the system.

Working

When user wants to enter the room he/she can enter the password using keypad connected to the
microcontroller . if it is valid then the Gate opened and closed after some delay. If invalid alarm
start ringing. A mode selection switch will connected to the microcontroller to select the
modes(Auto/manual).In auto mode sensor will sense the environmental data so that the bulb and
fan controlled automatically. In manual mode the speech recognition IC needs to be programmed
for various speech commands. This is done by using a MIC, analog speech signal from MIC are
stored in the internal memory of the IC after being digitized using ADC blocks. This learning
process need to be done for a number of speech commands. Once the learning is completed the
IC is ready to accept the commands. A command issued by the user through MIC will be
digitized and compared with the digitized commands already stored in the internal memory of
IC. When a match is received, microcontroller switches ON/OFF the particular devices. If any
leakage in the LPG microcontroller will automatically closes the LPG supply using solenoid
valve and a warning SMS will be sent to concern person using GSM module.

Conclusion
Overall, this study has been completed properly. thus resolved the main objectives and research
problems. This system managed to help users to detect human presence around the house
precisely. The use of microcontroller facilitates the installation process at home and can prevent
anyone hacking into security systems. This system is a system that meets recently smart home
applications in order to function in automation situation. During the study, a lot of knowledge
and experience have been learned.
