History
Istanbul was the capital of two of the
greatest empires; Roman Empire and
Ottoman Empire.

In 1600, during the Ottoman period,


between 400-700,000 people lived in
Istanbul making it the world's second
most populous city after Beijing.

The Ottoman Empire participated in


World War I as one of the Central
Powers, consisting of Germany,
Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria ,and the
empire.
The flag of Turkey is a red flag with a
white crescent and star. The red flag is
called al bayrak and stated to as al
sancak (the red banner) in the Turkish
national anthem.
After defeated in the WWI, the capital city had moved to Ankara, however Istanbul remains
developing and expanding the city to become greater.

Nowadays, The population of Istanbul increased to approximately 13 millions, in addition
