Thailand and Myanmar colonize

During the 1500s and 1600s the Europeans were able to take control of the

international trade of Asia, thereby diverting the profits from this trade to Europe. As a

result, the Europeans became stronger while Asian empires and kingdoms became

weaker. By the 1800s the Europeans were in a position to establish their authority over

much of Asia, particularly the Indian subcontinent and southeast Asia. Thailand and

Burma were become the country that Europe want. At that time Burma was under

controls of British Government and took advantage of Burmas political instability while

Thailand never been colonised because the ability of king rama five so, what effect on

those two country that get colonize and never get colonize.

Thailand in the 1800s,then the kingdom of Siam that was ruled by King

chulalongkorn or King Rama V. He was the fifth monarch of Siam under the house of

Chaki. Thais people said he is one of the greatest king that change and protect

Thailand. His reign was characterized by the modernization of Siam, government and

social reform. The important thing that he this to make Thailand be Thailand like

nowadays is protect Thailand from colonization by European and choose to territorial

concessions instead. Turn back into colonization period Siam was surrounded on all

sides by colonized nations. Gunboats from British would eventually turn up off the coast

of Siams capital and ask Siam to sign the Bowring treaty. Bowring treaty is the

agreement signed on 18 April 1855 between United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Siam

that liberalized foreign trade in Siam. This treaty allowed free trade for British in all
seaports and to reside permanently in Siam. The treaty also allowed the establishment

of a British consulate in Bangkok and guaranteed its full extraterritorial powers, and

allowed Englishmen to own land in Siam.Even Though a treaty of friendship and

commerce claimed to be an unequal treaty for Siam and beneficial for British but This

treaty is one reason that allowed Siam to be independent. However the treaty lead to

the economic develop of Siam until nowadays. Thailand also lose the land to European

countries during the colonization. Cambodia had come under French control in 1863,

and in 1885 France completed its conquest of Vietnam. Britain took the last remaining

portion of Burma the same year. When in 1893 Siam mounted a resistance against

French troops sent to Laos to press Vietnam's claims there, France sent gunboats to

Bangkok. The Thai capitulated and had to yield to France their sovereignty over Laos

and also pay a large indemnity. Most of Laos then became part of French Indochina,

France's colony in the region. France gained additional territories in Laos and Cambodia

from Siam by treaty in 1904 and 1907. In 1909 Siam ceded to Britain the four northern

Malay states, while the British agreed to assist in financing a Bangkok-Singapore rail

line and to yield some of their extraterritorial rights.

In the beginning Burma trade between China and India passing straight through

the country and the conflict began between Burma and The British when Konbaung

Dynasty decided to expand the land in to Arakan in the state of Assam close to the

British possessions in India. This cause to the first Anglo-Burmes War. The result is

British won with the aid of Siamese so,Burma was forced to give away their land Assem

and other northern provinces to be under control of British. In the middle of 18th the
second Anglo-Burmese War was provoked by the British who sought the teak forest in

Lower Burma as well as the port between Calcutta and Singapore. The result is British

won the war again that make British take advantage from Burma to desired access to

the leak, oil and rubies of northern Myanmar. Not for a long time after the second war

the beginning of Third Anglo-Burmese War started. The British government justified

their actions by claiming that the last independent king of Myanma was a tyrant and that

he was conspiring to give France more influence in the country. Thus, in 1885, after

three wars gaining various parts of the country, the British finally occupied all the area of

present-day Burma making the territory a Province of British India.

During the colonizations when the bad comes there always good things came

back. Even though Thailand never get colonized by any country because Thailand have

the greatest king. Meanwhile, between about 1890 to 1910 king Rama Vs launched a

modern government system for Siam. The existing department were reorganized into

twelve ministries, including ministries of war, justice, education, interior, and public work.

As well as the special department for such thing as postal service, railroads, and

hospitals. King Rama V use his ability from what he has learn and modify in to Thailand

system to be more modernization. King Rama V also focus on education by established

new and modern schools that inspired by foreigner country. MoreoverBurmathatgot
