Information for students who have passed CT, CA or ST exams with the
Institute of Actuaries of India
If you have already passed CT or CA exams, or two ST exams, with the Institute of Actuaries of India, the
information below will give you more details about eligibility for exemptions.
Please read the information carefully, as this will help to ensure that your application can be processed at the
earliest opportunity and to help prevent an incomplete application form being returned to you.
You have to be a current student member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) before you can apply
for your exemptions. We cannot guarantee that your recommended exemptions will be granted to you before
we receive a full application form from you.
If you have passed CT 1-8 subjects directly with the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) you can apply for an
exemption from each of the equivalent IFoA subjects individually.
You are eligible for exemption from the IFoAs CT9 exam if:
you became a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK before 1 July 2004. You are
automatically eligible for exemption from subject CT9
you have passed the Institute of Actuaries of Indias CT9 Business Awareness online module from the
June 2013 session onwards. You can apply for exemption from subject CT9
You are not eligible for exemption from the IFoAs CT9 exam if:
you became a member of the Institute of Actuaries of India before 1 July 2004, but did not become a
member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK until after 1 July 2004

CA2 Model documentation, analysis and reporting
If you passed the CA2 exam with the Institute of Actuaries of India before 4 March 2015 you can apply for
exemption from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries CA2 exam.
We can not grant an exemption from CA2 if you passed the exam with the Institute of Actuaries of India after
4 March 2015. This is because the structure of the IFoAs CA2 exam changed significantly in March 2015.
The application form for exemptions is available on our website, and contains details of the current fees that
are payable for exemptions. Please ensure that you read the notes which come with the application form
carefully.
