Corrective maintenance consists of

performing unscheduled emergency
maintenance. Data analyses and equipment
control enables us to determine any potential
incidents in real-time.

Preventive maintenance optimises the life

of the machines and operation under
optimum conditions.

To minimise the impact of these corrective

activities, predictive activities are carried
out, supported by a stock of spare parts and
critical components, stored either in the wind
farms or in our warehouses.

Case study 2
Adapting wind projects to local requirements

Context
Muukko wind farm project management (Finland)
Facing the challenges in our first Nordic project:

Extreme cold: not only for operation but also during the installation
process

Air density: the site being close to sea level with a particularly high
density of air caused higher loads on the turbines

Grid connectivity: a specific control layer between the wind turbines

and the substation was required to suit the grid requirements of the
Finnish market.

Special foundations: due to the specific site conditions, Alstom built the
wind turbines on specially designed foundation pedestals to optimise the
site performance

Case study 2
Adapting wind projects to local requirements
Solution
Coping with extreme cold and most demanding grid requirements
1. Adaptation of wind turbines to levelise hub heights with different
foundations pedestals (from 2.5 to 8.5m) to increase site performance
2. Cold climate pack, extending operating temperatures down to -30C
3. Ice detection system, including sensors and a specific control strategy
to detect ice-forming conditions.
4. Alstom Wind e-control, providing a fast and accurate method of
active and reactive power regulation for most demanding grid
requirements

New assembly process for ECO 100 and ECO 110 installations:
Nacelle and hub are assembled on the ground
Then placed on top of the tower in one unique lifting operation
The process has also been validated for the uninstallation phase,
considering the total life cycle of a wind turbine
Process has been standardised for all onshore wind farms with similar
conditions
