Your school days are almost over. The choices you make, the
doors you elect to open, now and in the next few short years,
will have a profound impact on the entire direction of your
adult life. The decision to pursue a university qualification,
and the decision concerning which qualification to pursue
out of the many on offer, are themselves seminal decisions,
but the most crucial of all will be the university you choose
to be your home, your guide, your support, your inspiration.
As the pace of change and progress quickens, never before
has South Africa needed graduates of such high calibre,

Many of our graduates are employed in South Africa
or internationally in diverse areas of industry, or work
as freelance designers, architectural technologists or
independent artists. Whatever their preference, they
have been thoroughly prepared as professionals through
creative and entrepreneurial development, which are key
elements in the programmes offered.
The Faculty works closely with industry to ensure that
its programmes remain relevant and to keep students
constantly exposed to changes occurring in the practising
worlds of art and design. In the course of the year,
recognised national and international artists, designers
and academics are invited to address students. The
FADA Gallery hosts a series of cutting-edge exhibitions
throughout the year and the annual student exhibitions
showcase the best student work for public viewing.
The Faculty offers various undergraduate and
postgraduate programmes in the field of art, design
and architecture.
Placement in the programmes is limited, and there are
additional requirements such as entrance assessments
and prescribed portfolios. Prospective students are
therefore encouraged to apply as early as possible.

The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) is one nine
faculties at the University of Johannesburg, home to five schools, 12
departments and two technology stations. It offers both Engineering
Technology and Engineering Science undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes. In keeping with the Universitys comprehensive status, the
Faculty is the first in South Africa to offer global education to a full range
of professional engineering qualifications.
FEBE remains a leading provider of well-qualified and accredited engineers,

Engineering technologists and technicians. Over the years, the Faculty has established
strategic partnerships within the international higher education landscape and
with key industry stakeholders. Operating within the dynamic and competitive

and the
higher education landscape, FEBE is innovative in its approach to teaching,
learning, collaborative research, community engagement, international
partnerships and remains at the cutting edge of technology. It is focused on
the promotion of reflective and critical thinking, novel ways of problem-solving

and believes in environmentally sustainable solutions.
Engineering broadly focuses on the creative application of scientific and
technical knowledge to design, analyse, develop structures, machines,
manufacturing processes, construction of works/systems for practical purposes
or maximizing operations. An Engineer is one that analyses and innovates,
while the Technologist will implement and develop and the Technician will
install, commission, maintain and operate. Courses within the Faculty are best
suited for learners who are creative thinkers, possess an inventive imagination
with an aptitude for mathematics, science and technology, learners who enjoy
discovering how things work and solving problems with logic and reason.
The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment is supported by the
following Accreditation Bodies:
Engineering and Engineering Technology Programmes the Engineering Council of

Quality and Operations Management Programmes are not subject to accreditation by
professional bodies.
Accreditation agencies generally align to international accords and in this way
programmes listed by FEBE receive recognition internationally. ECSA is a signatory of
the Dublin, Sydney and Washington Accord which provides international recognition
for the Facultys BEng and BEng Tech. Curricula are specifically designed, taking into
consideration the National Skills Development Plan, industry needs, surrounding
communities, government, economy and international bodies. Programmes are subject

In the past few years, UJ opted to host a number of
Mini Open Days, instead of one large event that took
place simultaneously on all four campuses.
Based on the previous successes of the Mini Open
Days, a number of Mini Open Days for Grade 12
learners will be once again hosted in 2016, as well as
specific Open Days for Grade 11 learners and Subject
Choice Seminars for Grade 9 learners.
These focused events mean you will have a more valuable
experience with the University and that you come away
with palpable information as you will have more quality
time to speak to the relevant UJ representatives.
In order to book for an Open Day please visit
w w w . f u t u r e . u j . m o b i
and register on the site to book.
