It was believed that there was a
pre-ordained order for all things - this
arrangement was called the Ladder of
Intellect
Within each step of the ladder, there is a
hierarchy
For example: The lion would be higher
than a mouse on its tier (beast).
A break in the chain caused chaos and
imbalance
The order of the Ladder of Intellect, with God
At the top and stone (minerals) at the bottom.
Music of the Spheres
The planets and astral bodies create an inaudible,
perfectly harmonious music that creates balance on
earth
The spheres are made of aether
An imbalance in the spheres creates imbalance on earth
Things like the planets aligning was considered to be an
incredible moment of harmony and balance
The Four Humours and The Four Elements
In Elizabethan times, behaviour was believed to be determined by four humours, each
representing certain qualities, among other things.
