It has been imprinted in the history of our country that Philippines and the United States (US) had

been good allies for 70 years; almost a century after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared the
separation October 20.

Are we throwing away decades of military partnership, tactical proficiency, compatible

weaponry, predictable logistics and soldier-to-soldier camaraderie just like that? former president Fidel
Ramos asked in his recent letter.

It is indeed cutting the relationship with them who once save our country from war and foreign
domination. Our president didnt reconsider how our country and U.S. have been through the past years
or even in history.

Looking back at the shadow of colonization, the US helped us regain our independence which for
333 years had taken to us by Spain. During those times, William McKinley championed Manifest Destiny
which contains the obligation of the Americans-- to educate the Filipinos, civilize and train them for
democracy. The Philippines, to strengthen the relationship issued Parity Rights/Amendment which allows
Americans to develop our natural resources and run public utilities.

When Japan occupied the Philippines during World War II, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, an
American who today, a well- known hero in our country famously returned to drive out the Japanese
forces.

The United States granted the Philippines independence after the war. The countries have
maintained close economic ties and a strong military alliance, including a mutual defense treaty that dates
from 1951.

In fact, for several years, our has been so dependent from Americas 7, 429 Artillery forces, 2,
831 battle tanks, 19, 484 Principal Surface combat ships, 98 Patrol and Coast combat ships, 3, 583
Combat Cable Aircraft.

Weve been protected by U.S for many years after tenures of several presidents. We had
maintained the kinship that we inherited from the ancestors of both countries. But now, just after the
winning of our president, he wanted it to be cut just for power reasons.

Duterte and Xi Jinping met at Beijings Great Hall of the People, talking about changing the bitter
fighting to close friendship. Our president also told the Chinese that he could also reach out to Russian
President Vladimir Putin for talks on a three- way alliance. There are three of us against the world
China, Philippines and Russia. Duterte said.

The intention is clear, the president wanted our country to be powerful and be known not only in
Asia but across the world. If this would be continued, Duterte might end up losing respect not just from
the people of his country but to other nations. Power? We cannot secure our liberty ar swords point, we
