INFORMATIVESPEECHOUTLINE

SPECIFICPURPOSE:Toimparttomyaudiencethemattersaboutachievingthechildhood
dreams,andenablingthedreamsofotherpeople.

CENTRALIDEA:TheLastLectureofRandyPauschtendersthatwelivelifetothefullest
whenweachieveourchildhooddreamsandweenablethedreamsofothers.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Attentiongetter:Imagineyourselvesaskids,ifyouwouldhavewantedtopainton
yourwall,doyouthinkyourparentswouldallowyoutodothat?Yesorno?Well,
itsyourparentscall.ButRandyPauschinhisinspirationalbook,theLastLecture,
whichisactuallytakenfromhisspeech,ofthesametitle,deliveredatCarnegie
MellonUniversity,recountedhismotherindulgedhim.Youwouldseebothinthe
bookandspeechhowenthusiastichewaswhenhewouldshowhisthoughtsonhis
walls,attheceilingandhethoughtthatwascool.Anybodywhodbeentohisroom
thoughtso,too,hisparentswerealsocoolforallowinghimtodothat.Thattohim
wasagift.Lateron,evenafterage,hewouldsleepoverhisroom,wouldseethat
crazinessandfeelluckyandpleased.

1.2 Statementofrelevance:Homeistheenablerofdreams!Weseefromthatparticular
incidentinMr.Pauschslifehowitisimportantforyourparentstofullysupportyou
inyourendeavors,howevercrazytheymayseematfirst!Thisisconfidencebuilding
atitsbest.ThatswhyIfelttheresaneedformetoimpartwhatIlearnedfromthe
bookbecausewecanreallylearnalotfromhissimpleexperiences.

1.3 CredibilityStatement:I,forone,isfullyagreeabletothatsense.RandyPauschs
LastLecturestandsoutfromamonginspirationalbooksIhavereadinthatitdraws
deeperintohispersonallife,beginningathowhischildhoodwasshapedand
influencedathomebyhisparents.Howthisbecamethefoundationoflivingafull
life.

1.4 Thesisstatement:AccordingtoMr.Pausch,tohaveafulllife,firstly,wemust
achieveourchildhooddreamsandsecondly,wereachoutbyenablingothersto
achievetheirdreams,too.

TRANSITIONTOFIRSTMAINPOINT:Butthequestionbegstobeanswered,how
doweachieveourchildhooddreams?Letuscounttheways

2.0 Waysinachievingyourchildhooddreams
2.1 Youmusthaveavision.
2.1.1Youmustbeclearastowhatdoyouexactlywanttobe;whereyouare
heading.
2.1.2 AndaccordingtoRogerSeip(2012),thisisimportantsoyoucould
specificallyworkwithintheparametersofwhatyourbraincaneasily
focuson.
2.2 Overcomethebarriers.
2.2.1 Thisisthetruetestofsuccessfulpeople.Dontbeafraidtofail,aswhat
ZigZiglar(1985)said,somepeoplewininspiteoftheoddstheyfacein
life.
2.2.2 Overcomingpresentbarriersmeansyoucouldbeatevenmoreinthe
future.
2.2.3 Also,youmustremembertomakepeacewithimperfectionforaccording
toRichardCarlson(1997),thisisimportantsoyoucouldmakeyourself
awarethateverythingcouldnotbeperfectandyoushouldbefinewithit.

TRANSITION:Nowthatwehavelearnedthedifferentwaysofachievingthechildhood
dreams,anotherquestionthatbegstobeansweredisHowdowehelpothersachievetheir
dreams,too?Again,letscounttheways.

3.0 Wayshowtoenablethedreamsofotherpeople
3.1 Inspirethemtomovetowardstheirdreams.
3.1.1 AswhatScottKaufman(2011)said,inspirationpropelsapersonfrom
apathytopossibility,andtransformsthewaytheyperceivetheirown
capabilities.
3.1.2 Butininspiring,youshouldnotalsoforgettolisten.Showthemthatthey
matter,thattheirideasareworthhearing.
3.2 Helptheminanywayyoucan.
3.2.1 Thisisbyprovidingthemtangiblesupportsuchasbooks,iftheyarestill
studying,cameras,iftheyareintophotography,andetc.
3.2.2 Thishelpsinmotivatingotherpeoplefortheywillfeelthatyouarereally
supportiveofthem,thus,itwillinspirethemtoworkharder.

TRANSITION:Whatistheessenceofachievingourchildhooddreamsandhelping
otherachievetheirdreamsalso?Tothat,RandyPauschs(2008)wisdomisrelevant.He
saidItisnotaboutachievingyourdreams,itsabouthowyouleadyourlife,Ifyou
leadyourlifetherightway,thekarmawilltakecareofitself,thedreamswillcometo
you.(p.205)

4.0 CONCLUSION
RandyPauschisright.Itisnotbadtodreamandhelp.Butweshouldnotbetooconsumedin
chasingourdreamsandstagingrelevanttoothers.Lestweforgethowtolivelifeasit
unfolds.Imean,itisimportanttolookforwardtothefuture,butwemustnotlosesightof
thepresent.Todayisagiftwemustenjoy.
