Explanation
As a group, we had to develop the items we felt were the most necessary to put on our
survey. We did this by looking at example surveys at first. This gave us an idea of what types of
questions to ask the audience. For the first question we created, we knew that having pictures of
the survey gets the audiences attention and makes it more likely they will participate in the
survey. We added the picture questions first to draw the participates in from the start. The second
set of questions we developed by using our research question about differences in fan enthusiasm
from the SEC and Big Ten football conferences. The items seen under question two will help us
get a better understanding on if people prefer the SEC or Big Ten football conference, which will
in the end help answer the question about enthusiasm in fans. Questions 3-6 were developed to
get a better sense of who is taking the survey. This will help us determine their favorite college
football team.
For the first question, we used pictures to find out if the participant likes or dislikes what
they are seeing when taking the survey. If they like the item, we can assume they know which
conference the team is apart of and they have some interest in the team because they can
recognize the schools logo. If the participant dislikes the image being shown, we can assume
they do not like the school/team and or the conference which the image represents. For the
second question, we listed out different statements that the participant with either agree or
disagree with. We used this type of question because it will give us a better understanding of how
the participant feels about college football. By the participant answering these questions, it will
give us a better understanding of their college football experience. Questions three through six
are demographic questions, which are used at the end of a survey to know more about the
participants taking the survey. We chose these questions to better understand the characteristics
and demographics of age, gender, location of where they live, and their favorite team.
The images of both the SEC and Big Ten conference logos are used in the first question
to see if the participant likes or dislikes the images being shown. We feel as they are two well-
known conferences and many people will recognize the logo. The two college teams were put
into questions to see the if the participants likes one more than the other; this could lead to the
participant liking one of the conferences more than the other.
We asked the question asking the participant if they consider themselves a college
football fan. Knowing this information is important because we need to make sure the participant
enjoys watching college football games, no matter what conference it may be. Knowing if the
participant has never attended a college football game gives us a better idea of how true a fan
they actually are. If the participants answers the next two questions of attending either an SEC or
Big Ten conference football game, it means they have some interest in either of the two
conferences since they have attended a game. The questions of preferring the watch SEC or Big
Ten over one another on television gives us as researchers a better understanding of which
conference they would rather be a part of. If you prefer to watch a certain conference over the
other, you are loyal to that conference. Asking the questions about which conference game they
would rather attend, helps us have a better understand of which conference the participant is
more interested in.
Asking demographic questions is not as important as the other questions asked
beforehand, but they are still important in our research. Asking the participant to circle their
gender is not a key in this research process for us, but it still is looked as important. From this
information, it might be able to tell us that a certain gender likes one of the conferences more
than the other or this could be completely useless for us. Knowing the participants age is
important for us because it could tell us that certain ages prefer a conference over the other
conference. Asking the question of where the participant is from is the most important question
in the demographic section of questions. This is because the participant could be a fan of a
certain team just because they are from the area in which the team is from. Last but not least,
knowing the participants favorite college team will help us answer the question of which
conference people are more proud of being a part of.

Informed Consent
The purpose of the research is to determine the levels of enthusiasm in fans for football in the
SEC compared to those in the Big Ten Conference.

Participants will be given a survey to determine whether their attachment between these two
conferences is weak or strong. Participants will be given specific questions to test their
knowledge towards the different teams within the conferences and the conference itself.

Potential benefits: participants will find out their dedication to their favorite conference and or
teams within the conference.
Participants that are least informed about the teams in the different conferences and the
conference itself can mess up the overall results of the experiment due to their lack of
information.

Participants may withdraw at any time from the survey activity without penalty.

By signing below, participants freely agree to take part in taking the survey.
