Activity 1 Lets test our memory!

Activity: Memory game: matching pictures and
generating suitable statements
Aim: To review grammar and vocabulary by
saying what people are doing in certain weather
conditions.
Interaction: Group or pair work
Language focus: Present continuous; vocabulary
related to the weather
Skills focus: Looking, reading and speaking
Preparation: Photocopy a worksheet for each
group or pair and cut the cards out.
When to use: After Unit 13
Time: 15 minutes
Procedure:
1 Write a few statements showing the use of the
present continuous on the board. Systematize the use.
2 Brainstorm vocabulary related to weather conditions.
3 Invite students to provide sentences with the
vocabulary revised.
4 Divide the class into groups or pairs and tell students
they are going to play a memory game. Explain that
once they have matched the cards, they have to
generate sentences about the different drawings, eg:
The girl is walking along the park. It is foggy.
5 Give out the copies of the picture cards, so that the
different groups or pairs can start playing.
6 Teach any new vocabulary, if necessary.
7 Set a time limit.
