Notes & Considerations

! An application can be any executable file generally ending in a .exe, .com, or .bat extension, or a viewable
document in .pdf, .htm, .html format, or any other file type (extension) that is registered with the operating
system.

! When an executable application is selected from the Applications menu list, a request is made to the operating
system to start the application. If successful, the application will be started, and control will be passed from GASCalc
to the application.

! When a document style application is selected from the Applications menu list, a request is made to the operating
system to start the application associated with the document type. For example, Acrobat Reader might be started if
the document is a pdf format file, or Internet Explorer might be started if the document is a htm or html format
file. If successful, the application will be started and the document will be displayed, and control will be passed from
GASCalc to the application displaying the document.

! If the application file is stored on a website, the appropriate prefix must be included in the path name. For example,
the path must begin with http:// or ftp://. If a GASCalc Warning screen appears with a File Not Found prompt, select
the Yes command button to continue to save the data. The website or FTP site will be available in the Applications
menu list.

! If the application file is stored on a non-mapped network location, the appropriate Uniform Naming Convention
(UNC) prefix must be included in the path name. For example, the path must begin with text similar to \\SALLY\C\,
where SALLY is the machine name and C is the drive name.

! To view documents, an appropriate third party application must be registered with the operating system for the
associated file type (extension).

! Listing items in the Applications menu is useful for accessing documents or applications that are frequently viewed
or used. For example, you might consider adding company specifications to the Applications menu list, or other
analytical programs that are often used simultaneously when performing calculations using GASCalc.
