Center for Disease Control and Prevention Proposal

Task: You work for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and your focus is on funding a
project to create an Infectious Disease Emergency Response Plan. A panel of medical
professionals will be evaluating the proposals to determine which should receive $1,000,000 to
fund their plan.

You will research the background and impact of a specific communicable disease on human
society, and will evaluate and revisit existing plans in order to write a proposal describing the
need for money for further research.

You will conduct research with a group and will complete a proposal presentation to be shared
with the panel of medical professionals from the Monterey community. In addition, you will write
an individual proposal plan to be given to the panel for further evidence.

Research: Work with your group to answer the following research questions. The answers to
these questions will provide you with the necessary information to write your proposal. Each
group will need to answers AT LEAST eight questions from the list below. (Due November 4,
2016)

did the disease spread?

4. Describe how the pathogen is transmitted from one organism to the next.

2. How many cases of your disease were found? How many have died from your disease? (May
use statistics from one year, or a cluster of years)

3. Has the pathogen changed over time? In what ways has it become more difficult to treat or
prevent?

Current Preventative Measures


1. What are two examples of public health efforts that have greatly reduced the spread of
disease?

4. Describe at least two examples of how modern technology has prevented or treated this
infectious disease.

and be sure that your presentation choices (themes, colors, background, animation, font, etc.)
are professional. You will be presenting to a panel and will be competing for funding.
