Case Study Module 1 Lesson 2

Conflict arises from differences, both large and small. It occurs whenever
people disagree over their values, motivations, perceptions, ideas, or desires.
Sometimes these differences appear trivial, but when a conflict triggers strong
feelings, a deep personal need is often at the core of the problem. These needs can
be a need to feel safe and secure, a need to feel respected and valued, or a need for
greater closeness and intimacy.

Effective communication is an important life skill that enables us to better


understand and connect with the people around us. It allows us to build respect and
trust, resolve differences and foster environments where problem solving, caring,
affection and creative ideas can thrive.

Communication is the best way for all of us to understand and communicate


each other. It is also the only way for us to coordinate with our colleagues when
used properly, but without communication, conflict will always arise in any
situation.

Misunderstanding, improper communication and high temper lead both of


the nurses to argue with each other. The charge nurse should have talked to the
bedside nurse in a nice way to avoid a bigger problem. Any issue never gets solved
without proper communication. The charge should also helped the bedside nurse
on the time she knew that she was busy with the other patients. On the other way
around, the bedside nurse should have asked for help and told the charge nurse that
she cannot do the task earlier so that the charge nurse was able to do something
about it. The bedside nurse should know her responsibilities ad keep in mind that
she has a lot of patients and must not focus to only one patient. She must use her
time wisely and know the essence of time management to avoid further conflicts.
The bedside nurse must also remember to respect the charge nurse and all her other
colleagues.

To resolve the conflict, I would suggest that they should talk again when
both of them are calm and is in proper state to understand, accept and reflect on
their mistakes and apologize to each other, so that next time it wont happen again.
