district in Hamilton County and that school districts overall academic performance. Twenty-two
school districts exist within Hamilton County including the City of Cincinnati School District.
Due to the nature of the research that was conducted for this study, measures of central tendency
were unnecessary as a means of analyzing and organizing the raw data that was collected.
Instead, tables and graphs were utilized as a way of underlining where the various 22 Hamilton
County public school districts 3rd graders scored as compared to the state test score minimums
in both English and Mathematics. Instruments of measurement were set that indicated both a
school districts level of economic disadvantage and their level of academic achievement for 3rd
grade state testing on both English and Mathematics. The instruments utilized are listed below in
Figure 1. The 3rd grade Math and English & Language Arts raw test scores for each of the 22
school districts was pulled from the Ohio Department of Educations state report card
(reportcard.education.ohio.gov). Then, utilizing the instruments listed under Figure 1., the data
was placed into a table and a chart in order for conclusions to be drawn about the impact that
economic disadvantage has on a school districts level of academic achievement. The table can
be found under Figure 2. and the chart can be found under Figure 3. below.
