CHAMPION/DATA/ROUND 14
BRIS
Hi and welcome to the 14th H&A edition of the Fantasy Freako's rave for 2013.
We should have close to full strength sides this week with a numbers of key players returning from
CARL
injury, led by ball-magnet Michael Barlow. There are also a handful of cash cows that need to be
pounced on, with Mitchell Clisby the pick of the bunch.
Enjoy this week's read and best of luck for this round and beyond.
COLL
SCORES vs TOP 8 SIDES
ESS
It's one thing to find the ball against the lower sides, but it's another to record decent numbers against the stronger
teams. If we take a look at the most prolific scorers against the current top-8 sides on the AFL ladder, Brent Stanton
has been the most productive, averaging a whopping 129 points per game. Compare that to teammate Jobe Watson
who averages just a tick over 99 against the same opponents. Stanton has averaged 32 disposals, five marks and five
FREM
tackles per match, returning scores of 109, 114, 144 and 149 in that order, with the latter against Sydney in Round
10.
Bulldogs skipper Matthew Boyd is next best with an average of 124 points, but that is largely made up by his 152
GEEL
point haul against Richmond in Round 13. Sadly for him and his owners a fractured cheekbone will now keep him
on the sidelines for up to one month. Cats' dynamo Steve Johnson rounds out the top-three with an average of 123,
averaging 31 disposals, seven marks, six tackles and one goal per outing.
GCS
Dane Swan has featured against each of the current top-eight sides, averaging 102 points per game which ranks
equal 19th overall. He is coming off one of his worst games in recent memory against Port Adelaide, finishing with 23
disposals and a season-low 73 points. He only had 43 points to his name at three quarter time which was his second-
lowest return in any game since 2007. Swan has scored below 100 points only once against this week's opponents
GWS
Carlton (97) from his past 13 games, so expect him to bounce back strongly
Grant Birchall is one name which took me by surprise, coming in at ninth with an average of 110 per game. But he
returned those scores when he was in red-hot form between Rounds 1-7. As we know now he fell right away, scoring
HAW
below 80 in five of his last seven games.
Some of the bigger names that didn't make the below list include Kane Cornes, Nathan Fyfe, Patrick Dangerfield,
Jimmy Bartel, Joel Selwood, Ryan O'Keefe and Dean Cox.

TACKLING MACHINES
CARL
The formula is simple. A tackle has always been more rewarding than a kick and with this in mind
I have taken the liberty of breaking down the scores of the top-50 ranked players in the competition
to find the best tackler in the game. The findings are highlighted in the below table and the name
COLL
Jack Redden comes out on top.
Redden has been a tackling machine across his career, averaging more than six per game which
includes a career-high eight per game in 2011. If we break down his scoring this season, 30.8% of
ESS
his entire score has been made up by tackles alone, which is the highest percentage of any player.
He has applied at least four tackles in every game and has reached double figures twice along the
way. He has also found his fair share of the ball, averaging 21 disposals per match, with his season-
FREM
high of 26 coming against this week's opponent Gold Coast in Round 3.
Next best is Sydney's Kieren Jack, with 28.6% of his total score made up of tackles. Averaging a
career-high eight tackles per game this season, he has applied five or more in all but two matches
GEEL
and reached three figures on three occasions. He has plenty of strings to his bow, averaging 25
disposals and one goal per game as well, ranking him sixth in the competition for points scored this
season, well ahead of Redden's 26th overall ranking.
GCS
Jack's team mate Ryan O'Keefe (ROK) ranks fifth with 28.1%, averaging a career-high average of
seven tackles per game. His tackle numbers have gone through the roof since Round 9, averaging 11
per match which equates to 37.2% of his combined score in this period. He is a tackling machine in
GWS
every sense of the word, returning tackle tallies of 13, 14 and 15 in this period. Playing Melbourne
at the MCG this week, ROK finished 25 disposals, five marks, 14 tackles and 136 points in his last
match at the venue in Round 9 against Collingwood.
HAW
There was a couple of surprise packets among my findings, with Gold Coast duo Dion Prestia
and young gun Jaeger O'Meara making the list. Prestia had a blinder last week against Adelaide,
finishing with a career-high 42 disposals and 157 points, 21 more than in any other match across
MELB
his career. O'Meara goes from strength-to-strength, recording back-to-back ton's for the first time
this season courtesy of his 100 points against Adelaide.

Coaches that held onto Brad Crouch would have been elated with his
output last week against the Suns, but not many would have started him
on the ground. A worthy NAB Rising Star nominee, he finished with
31 disposals, six tackles and 121 points, the second-best return of any
COLL
player on the ground.

If Bradley McKenzie keeps his place in the side then he has to be considered
as a trade down target. Collecting 82 points last week against the Giants, the
only unknown is his job security, but in saying that the Kangaroos have been
COLL
stable all season, using only 30 players, the fewest of any side.
