Lesson Plan (Q1)


I. Context
A. Class: Pre-Kinder (4-5 years old)
B. Schedule: W 8:30 - 9:00 am
C. Session: 1st
D. Concept: Beat
II. Objectives:
By the end of the session, the students should be able:
1. define steady beat by describing it as the heartbeat or pulse in music.
2. show music appreciation through active class participation.
3. demonstrate steady beat through tapping on the beat.
III. Materials and Equipment:
1. Song: Chopin Prelude Op.28 No.20 in C minor (Largo)
2. Heart visual aids (beat keepers)
IV. Lesson Procedure:
A. Motivation:
1. The teacher will let the students listen to songs with strong beats.
2. The teacher will ask the students to clap with the song however they wish.
3. The teacher can do 2-3 short songs.
4. Transition: lead the discussion to learning about beat through associating the clapping
(while listening to the song) to the beat.
A. Introduction:
1. The teacher will place the beat keepers on the board.
2. The teacher will let the students feel their heartbeat.
3. Let the students describe the feeling.
B. Lesson Proper:
1. The teacher will let the class listen to the song: Chopin Prelude Op.28 No.20 in C minor
(Largo).
2. The teacher will tap the beat to the song and let the students observe first.
3. The teacher will tap the beat to the song but this time the students will follow after.
4. The students will continue tapping the beat of the song while the teacher points to the beat
keepers on the board.
5. The teacher can repeat the song as deemed necessary.
6. The teacher will introduce steady beat to the students as the heartbeat or pulse in music.
I Assessment
3. The teacher can ask one of the students to lead the class in a beat activity.
4. The student will point on the beat keepers and the class will follow.
5. The teacher can let other students lead the class.
V. Wrap Up
A. Summary
1. The class will listen to the song once again while tapping on the beat.
B. Transfer of Knowledge
1. The teacher will encourage the class to listen to other things with steady beat or produces
steady beat. (e.g. ticking of clock)
