to make sure she heard and understands them. Provide
student 14 with a model, allow for use of graphic organizers,
allow for use of highlighters, use guided notes to support
lectures, provide notes, allow extra time to complete the
task(s), modify work assignments, allow for extended time for
complex assignments and tests, quizzes and assessments.
3. Extensions for Individual Students with Identified needs

Teaching & Learning Sequence:

1. Part one: Pre-Assessment Introduction: (20-30 minutes)

a. Once all of the students are logged in, I will have them go to
portaportal.com and log on to my portal. When the students are on
my portal, I will have put their thumb up if they are on my portal.
Once all of them are there, I will have them click on the Kahoot link.
I will project what their screen should like, and then I will project
the game pin they should type in.
b. Once all of the students are ready to begin the lesson, I will explain
to the students that we are extending our unit on Colonization but
focus on the daily life in order to prepare for Muster Day. I will say
that this is a pre-assessment, so we can see what all you know
about colonial daily life.
2. Part two: Lesson Introduction (10 minutes)
a. Display AS 2 to introduce the learning target for the lesson. (I will
read the learning target to the students).

b. Explain to students that we are extending our unit on Colonization,

but now focusing on Colonial Life, to help prepare for Muster Day.

c. Share with the students that I was shocked about what chickens
were used for.

d. Tell students that today they are going to go on a digital scavenger

hunt to get an idea of what Colonial America was like.

e. Have students preview pages 1-3 of their SAP while you display AS
3-4. Preview the questions with the students so that they know
what they are looking for as they explore.

3. Part two: Lesson Activity:

a. Tell students that they will be working on their digital devices

(either independently, small groups, or whole class) to find the
answers to the scavenger hunt.

b. Use the SMARTboard, or white board display the Scavenger Hunt

presentation using the following link: bit.ly/colonial hunt, or by
opening the presentation directly as found in Folder 2: Student
Resources.

c. Explain to students how to navigate through it using the three

categories (fun facts, games, If I lived...) and how to use the ship to
return to the homepage and the arrow to return to the beginning of
each category. :

Rev. 07/16
d. If working independently, provide students with the scavenger hunt
QR code and link card for easy access to the presentation. The PDF
is saved to the students common space

e. Allow them to work for several minutes completing the scavenger

hunt. Students can work through the presentation in any order and
complete SAP pages 1-3. You may want them to look at the
games category last to ensure they have enough time to
complete all the questions on their recording sheets.

4. Part two: Lesson Reflection:

a. When students have had time to complete the scavenger hunt,

bring students back together.

b. If students worked independently or in groups, go over the

answers, again using AS 3-4.

c. Have students complete the learning target self- evaluation on

page 3 of their SAP.

Common Core Teacher Standards (CCTS) Alignment & Justification:

(Field/Student Teaching Only).

Standard #5: Innovative Application of Content: The teacher

understands how to connect and use differing perspectives to engage learners
in critical/creative thinking and collaborative problem solving related to
authentic local and global issues.
Rationale: The teacher has planned a lesson where the students are using
digital and interactive technologies to enhance their knowledge on colonial life
by doing an interactive scavenger hunt.

ISTE Standard #2 Design and develop digital age learning experiences

and assessments: Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning
experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources
to maximize content learning and to develop the knowledge, skills, and
Rev. 07/16
attitudes identified in the standards.
Rationale: The teacher has designed and developed a lesson where the
students are using an interactive scavenger hunt to learn about Colonial
America. Each student will be going through an interactive PDF to find the
answers, and will record them in their student activity packet.

Standard #7: Planning for Instruction: The teacher draws upon knowledge
of content areas, cross-disciplinary skills, learners, the community, and
pedagogy to plan instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous
learning goals.
Rationale: Rationale: The teacher is creating a lesson plan that will support every students
learning goals in the classroom by planning well in advance. The teacher knows the students well
and understands how each of them learn and what works best for them and what doesnt work. The
teacher also has planned for the lesson weeks in advance. The teacher has thought about the
modifications and accommodations for students.

Post-Lesson Reflection: Overall the lesson went well. This was my first
lesson of the expanded unit on Colonial America. Before starting the digital
scavenger hunt, I did a Kahoot as a pre-assessment. Each student had a laptop,
so they could do the Kahoot individually, but we did the Kahoot as an entire
class. In the beginning of the lesson, I went over the some of the expectations
for the day, but I did not go in to detail about behavior expectations, and share
that this is just a pre-assessment and I am not expecting everyone to know all
of the answers. However, I did make sure that as a class, we went step by step
to get to the Kahoot. I also made sure that all of the students were on the same
page. I used thumbs up strategy to know when all of the students were ready
to move on. During the Kahoot activity, the students were engaged throughout
the activity, and seemed to love it. Although, the students were very chatty, I
did have to refocus them, and them that this is a still a quiz, and volume should
be zero level. Once I reinforced the expectations the students were more
behaved. Looking at the results of the pre-assessment: two students did not
meet, five students partially met, seven students met, and three students were
absent.
Since I teach three Social Studies, I am able to reflect on the first class and
decide if I want to do anything differently. After the first class, I decided that I
needed to make sure that I went over all of the expectations for the lesson, and
the game plan for the class. I made sure to discuss with the students that we
are expanding our unit on Colonial America but focusing on the daily life of the
colonists. I will also discuss with the students that we are doing a pre-
assessment, but we are not expecting you to know all of the answers but there
are some that you should know. I will also explain, that this is still a quiz and
that the volume needs to zero throughout the entire class. Also, when going
over the directions of the scavenger hunt, I will tell the students that they are
not going to be doing the game section until they have finished filling out all of
the information. Overall, the lesson went very well. The students were
engaged throughout the entire lesson, and were very respectful as well. The
Rev. 07/16
students loved the Kahoot quiz, and the interactive scavenger hunt.
