Lesson Objective(s)/Performance Outcomes
1. Students will be able to identify all planets based on their characteristics with 100% proficiency.
2. Students will be able to organize at least 6 out of the 8 planets in the order they appear in relation to the sun.
3. Students will be able to identify at least one characteristic of each of the 8 planets.
4. Students will create a model of the solar system with planets that are created based on their size and color.

Assessment (Description/Criteria)
Students will be assessed by their ability to identify the planets by listing two facts and
their sizes compared to the sun and other planets. At the end of the week a rubric will be
used to assess the students mobiles.
Materials and Resources
Hanger (each student)
construction paper
yarn
scissors
science journals
Management of the Instructional Environment
I will go over the CHAMPS to remind the students that it is a 0 zone, if they need help
they need to raise their hand, they are working by themselves, they should use
responsible movement, the should syau focus on their assignment, and we should all
strive to be Successful!
Technology Integration
A brainpop video will be shown to extend the students knowledge of each planet.
Diversity and Equity (Accommodations, Modifications, Adaptations)
Most the students will be creating their own planets based on their size and color. I will

have planets for other students to color and cut out. This student is in the process of
having a SPED folder created for them. This modification will allow the student to focus
on the order of the planets instead of the size and color. My focus is that he has an idea
of the order.

Activities/Procedures
Step 1: Gather the students on the carpet to view the brainpop video on the planets,
discuss what they learned about each planet and review the anchor chart on the solar
system. Review the order of the planets and how big they are compared to each other.
Explain to the students that they are going to be creating their own solar system models.
On the back of each planet they will write 2 facts about each planet and the sun.
Step 2: Have construction paper out for the students to grab and start cutting and
creating their planets. They should be deciding which facts they want to put on their
planets.
Step 3: Students can start punching holes in their finished planets and tying them on to
their hangers.
Step 4: Students will partner up with their center partners to discuss which facts they are
going to use and how their planets are looking.
Step 5: get the classes attention and close with a discussion on why we are learning
about the solar system, why is it important and how can our knowledge of the solar
system help us in the real world.
