The Basic Forming Processes of the

Materials Within The Brevel Toaster

What are some materials used in the Toaster?
Different types of metals are used to create this toaster along with other materials such as
rubber. Materials are manufactured and formed in various ways such
as:

- Aluminium: A sheet of aluminium is placed on a conveyor

belt and taken to a punch press, punching out. The sheet is
now then taken to a backwards extrusion press. As the sheet
is pressed, the aluminium flows around the die moulding into
a hollow toaster cage.

- Copper: Copper is found in wiring. The process of

producing wires include extruding copper. The wires
are then twisted into pairs then fed through a rotating
faceplate that is designed to prevent same twist
patterns. It is then fitted in an insulator made of rubber
then fitted into a cable jacket.

- Rubber: Rubber is used on the bottom of the toaster

to grip the surface, preventing slips. Rubber is casted,
using a special shaped silicon mould, a special liquid is
poured into the mould thus creating its distinct shape.

- Stainless steel: Stainless steel is a form of steel

containing chromium which is resistant to tarnishing and rusting.
Raw steel is casted and reshaped into rectangles (billets). From
there, the steel is descaled (nitric hydrofluoric acid bath), cut, then
finished such as polishing and applying corrosion resistance.

- Circuit boards: Circuit boards are the brains of any

computer. Most circuit boards are printed with many layers.
The middle layer is made with flexible substrate material such
as special plastics that can withstand high temperatures.
Another layer is printed with copper which has extremely
complex printed patterns. The last layer is added on top to
shield the copper. Without the shielding, if the copper circuits
get damaged, it will destroy the board. To prevent this from
happening a layer such as lead, nickel or gold is added to help
shield the board.
Mechanical and Electrical Systems within
the Toaster
Function of the mechanical system
The mechanical function of the toaster is a leverage system
which is to be pushed down after inserting the slices of
bread into the toaster, levelling the bread down into the
toaster. This mechanical function successfully allows the
toaster to toast the contents within.

The electrical systems

The interior of the toaster is comprised mostly of electrical
components. Ranging from an abundance of circuit boards to
more complex devices. Such devices inside include:
The CPU, which is the brain of the computer and is responsible
for executing tasks that is programmed to do.
The Transformer, which is a
device used to lower or raise the
voltages and currents in an
electrical circuit.
Fuses, which are low resistant
resistors that provides protection
in case of a load overcurrent of
short circuit.
These electrical systems together allow the toaster to do its
specifically programmed tasks in an ordered fashion.
