Hasil Pembelajaran Kursus

1. Analyse the approaches and issues in the teaching of grammar in the primary classroom.

2. Design materials (including remedial and enrichment) for the teaching of grammar in the
primary ESL classroom in line with 21 st Century learning. (C6, P7, PLO2, PLO3, PLO6,
CTPS5, LL1)

3. Plan a lesson including activities and methods of assessment to teach grammar in the
primary classroom based on the current Malaysian English Language syllabus for primary
schools in line with 21st Century learning.(C6, PLO3, PLO6, CTPS5, LL1)

4. Present a grammar lesson in groups.(C6, A2, PLO4, PLO5, PLO8, CS3, TS1, EM3)

5. Write a reflection on the implementation of a grammar lesson. ( C6, A2, PLO3, PLO6,
CTPS5, LL2)

Kerja kursus ini bagi menilai hasil pembelajaran 1, 2, 3, 4 dan 5.

Objektif Kerja Kursus

Siswa pendidik dapat:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of approaches and issues in the teaching of grammar in


the primary classroom.

2. Plan a 30 minute lesson for teaching of grammar in a Year 5 classroom in line with 21st
Century learning.
3. Design appropriate teaching materials and resources (including remedial and enrichment)
suitable for the target group of pupils with ideas in line with 21st Century learning.

4. Simulate a thirty-minute lesson to teach the chosen grammar item with the aid of teaching
materials prepared to assist students understanding.

4. Write a critical reflection on the simulated teaching experience.

Rangsangan

The value of grammar teaching is important in the English language teaching field. However,
the learning of grammar cannot be acquired naturally. It needs to be instructed. Teachers
should, therefore, employ various strategies in context and through explicit instruction in
teaching grammar so that the learning becomes more accessible and enjoyable. This will
enhance learners awareness and knowledge of grammatically correct structures in speech
and writing and hence, help the students in the correction of mistakes and improvement of
their written work. This coursework requires student teachers to weave grammar and other
aspects of a grammar lesson via their decisions about goals, activities, timing, grouping and
the balance of activities. This in turn will help student teachers improve their pedagogical
practices to fulfill the six aspirations stipulated in the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-
2025.

Siswa pendidik dikehendaki melaksanakan tugasan berikut:

Tugasan 1 - Lesson Plan [20%]

- Individually, design a grammar lesson plan that meets the requirement of the syllabus
and the curriculum standards of a Year 5 Malaysian primary ESL classroom.
Consider suitable approaches, activities and issues that are in line with 21st Century
learning for the teaching of grammar.

Tugasan 2 - Teaching Learning Materials [20%]

- Individually, design suitable materials and resources (including remedial and


enrichment) for the grammar lesson planned in Tugasan 1.

Tugasan 3 - Simulated Teaching (group) [10%]

- In groups, simulate a thirty-minute lesson to teach your grammar item using your
choice of activities and accompanying materials/resources. Record your teaching
session and append all the related documents to Tugasan 4.

Tugasan 4 - Reflection on Simulated Teaching [10%]

- Individually, in 350 words , reflect on your own simulated teaching sessions that you
have carried out. Your reflection should focus on the lesson objective(s), strengths,
weaknesses and suggestion for improvement. Consider how the simulated teaching
session has enhanced your understanding of the approaches and issues in the
teaching of grammar in a 21st Century primary ESL classroom. Support your key
points with references to relevant literature.
Arahan Pelaksanaan Tugasan:

i. Length of written essay should be approximately 350 words. It should be typed


using font Arial size 11 and 1.5 spacing.
ii. References should include journals, reference books and internet sources.
iii. Referencing procedures must follow the APA (American Psychological Association)
style.
iv. Essay should show your originality, maturity and academic quality.
v. Plagiarism is strongly prohibited.
