Matrimony in the Eyes of God

From the beginning of the second century to the middle of the 20th Century, the

Catholic tradition, and Sacrament of Marriage has united couples all around the world in

faithful and mutual love. "In all times and places it has been man's delight to think of

human love as a type of divine Love and of human marriage as a type of marriage of the

soul with God. Marriage is simply a union, and equal partnership of a man and woman.

Marriage comes from the hand of God, who created male and female in his image, so

they will become one and procreate.

Some common symbols of marriage are wedding rings, unity candle, and a veil.

The wedding rings symbolize never ending love between God and also between the

couple, just as the circle has no start or finish. The hole in the center of the ring also has

significance. It is considered a gateway, or door which leads to things both known and

unknown. Secondly, the unity candle; which symbolizes Christ, the light of the world

being present within the marriage. The candle also symbolizes the gift of the Holy Spirit

at Pentecost that must burn in the hearts of the couple to guide them on their path

throughout life. Lastly, the wedding veil, which is the most common symbol of marriage.

The veil shows the modesty and purity of the bride and her reverence for God, but also

symbolizes the loyalty to her husband.

Marriage began with God, and was established when God made Heaven and

Earth. When Adam and Eve were created, God united them in marriage and said, "That is
why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one

flesh" (Gen 2:24). Since that day Marriage is seen as a sacred covenant, and serves as a

prism in which God reveals His covenant relationship with His people and Christ with

His church. Later as time went on marriages were seen as contracts. Contracts were a

legal consensus that was approved by a civil government official. During the time period,

the couple would got to a priest or bishop and have the relationship blessed, but it wasnt

exactly a wedding. The wedding would have been undertaken among other witnesses by

making a commitment of their lives to one another.

There are different types of marriages, and each marriage is practiced differently

according to one anothers culture and traditions. The Catholic Church only supports

monogamy, but there are other marriages such as polygamy, and same- sex marriage.

Within different countries each wedding ceremony is different, and some marriages are

even arranged. Weddings are a big deal to the bride and groom but also to their families.

It is a bonding of two families and the unity of love and faith between one another. Each

wedding is different, and special. In other countries, there are different foods, activities,

and even rituals that are performed in order to make the wedding special, but also to

bring the presence of God to the couple. A common tradition during weddings is

wrapping a lasso which is a large rosary, around the couple to unify them together for the

rest of their lives with Christ. Lastly, the most important and common marriage tradition

is the wedding vows. The purpose of wedding vows is to promise one anothers

commitment and faithfulness through good times and bad. Marriage is a sacred covenant

in which the husband and wife must be faithful to their commitment as God is faithful to

his promise.
Marriage means a lot, its when two people become one. Marriage has to do a lot

with loyalty and faithfulness. The main motive is being faithful to one anothers partner

as one would be to God. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the Church and

gave himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25) Being married means giving up ones own

needs for the other person and being completely selfless. When married, you do what is

right for your marriage and not just for yourself. Marriage means unconditional love and

having faith in one another. Most importantly marriage is a reflection of Gods love. The

meaning of marriage in the Catholic Church is God who created man out of love also

calls him to love the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being. For man is

created in the image and likeness of God who is himself love. Since God created man and

woman, their mutual love becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with

which God loves man. It is good, very good, in the Creator's eyes. And this love which

God blesses is intended to be fruitful and to be realized in the common work of watching

over creation: "And God blessed them, and God said to them: 'Be fruitful and multiply,

and fill the earth and subdue it.'" (CCC, 1604)

Marriage is one of the best sacraments, and a personal favorite among many

people around the world. Everyone wishes to get married someday, and live a long and

happy life with their companion. Marriage is Gods design in which man and woman

complete each other, receive strength from one another, and also help contribute to one

anothers growth. There are many components in marriage that will make it work and

be a happy and healthy marriage. There is love, understanding, respect, loyalty, and most

of all support. Supporting one anothers husband or wife is extremely important. Just as

God will always be there, so should you be there for your partner; God will never
abandon. Love and Loyalty are important components as well. In marriage, one must

love their partner will all their heart, soul, and mind. Just as how God loves. Greater

love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

In conclusion, there is no love stronger than the love of God for all his people.

Advice to everyone who plans on get married is: base your marriage off of faith, and

work from there. A marriage cannot work without faith. The guidance of the Lord is

stronger than anything in the world, and is the key to everlasting happiness. Love your

wife or your husband with everything in your being. Do not give up on your husband or

wife just as the Lord would never give up on his people. Enjoy life with the wife whom

you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that

is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 9:9)
