1. Scope and object

Object of this document is to provide a comprehensive report concerning the performance
test results of the steam generating unit 6.

2. General
The performance guarantee test has been carried out with the following time schedule in
accordance with the Boiler performance test procedure 30390-A-M1007 Rev. 03.

Unit Case Fuel Load Date Time start Time end

6 2 GAS 100% MCR* 15/11/2012 10.30 12.00
6 2 GAS 100% MCR* 15/11/2012 12.00 13.30

6 7 GAS 25% MCR*** 16/11/2012 10.30 12.45
NOTES:
* Test duration has been reduced as per client request
** BMCR test duration has been reduced due to client request
*** Done at 30% according to client request since 25% load would have required the use
of:
- one electrical pump instead of the turbo pump
- level control at one element instead of three

The guarantees have been fulfilled with good margins, except than for auxiliary power
consumption, that is in any case well compensated by the other boiler over performances
(details are reported in the following chapters of the present document).

In particular this report includes:

1. Performance test result summary
2. Data collected during tests
3. Calculation of guaranteed values
4. Post test key observations

In order to give an idea of the better performance we have converted the credits in
electrical power for MCR test load (gas firing).

For this purpose correction curves from Steam Turbine manufacturer has been used for
evaluating the corresponding kWe credits on ST side:

The test duration was reduced, thus it was not possible to reach a stable load with
guaranteed parameters

3.2.1 Reheater performance evaluation

During tests at MCR, boundary conditions of reheater coils were off design; indeed cold
reheater temperature was well below than design.
The following analysis is made to evaluate the enhance of electrical power credit due to
higher RH coils heat absorption.
In order to understand the real credit we have to consider the following RH conditions:
1. Cold reheater flow
2. Cold reheater temperature
3. Overall reheater absorption

The cold reheater flow during test was higher than design:
Design Test
Cold reheater flow [kg/s] 459.53 460.3

Cold reheater temperature during the test was 5.2C lower than design as shown in the
below table:
Design Test
Cold reheater temperature [C] 337.2 332

In the below table is shown the comparison between design and test RH power:
Design Test

During tests the heat absorption of RH coils was 1.2% higher than design.
As suggested by ASME PTC 4 paragraph 5.18.13 the temperature of HRH is considered
higher than guaranteed if tested RH heat absorption is higher than design.
In the below table the test HRH temperature has been changed in order to have the same
heat absorption as in design condition.
MCR
Design Corr. Test
Cold reheater temperature [C] 337.2 332.0
Cold reheater pressure [bara] 41.2 38.2
Cold reheater flow [kg/s] 459.5 460.3
Cold reheater enthalpy [kJ/kg] 3058.1 3052.3

Hot reheater temperature [C] 567.0 563.15 566.02 - 563.15 = 2.87

Hot reheater pressure [bara] 39.3 36.9
Hot reheater flow [kg/s] 459.5 460.3
Hot reheater enthalpy [kJ/kg] 3599.8 3593.1

Reheater power absorbtion [MW] 248.94 248.94

563.15C is the temperature of Hot Reheater that should be assumed as guaranteed
Temperature corresponding to the test Cold Reheat Temperature

Test Hot RH T = 566.0 > 563.15, therefore the guarantee has been fulfilled.

Nevertheless the increased flow through the GRF helped to enhance RH power absorption
leading to a HRH steam credit equal to 2.87C.

In order to give an idea of the better overall performance this temperature credit has been
converted into equivalent electrical power credits (kWe) on ST side by the means of
correction curves from Steam Turbine manufacturer:

Agreed correction curves (Ref. Boiler performance test procedure 30390-A-M1007

- 54 kW on FD Fans power absorption due to higher heat to steam
- 481 kW on GR Fans power absorption due to lower CRH steam
temperature
Please note that, according to Par. 4, the greater power consumption is more than
balanced by boiler over performances

4. Conclusion
The above analysis shows the good behavior of the entire boiler package:

Emission levels are below the guaranteed values

RH pressure drop is much lower than guaranteed
Efficiency is about 0.5% more than guaranteed
Steam temperatures fulfill the design and contractual requirements

As shown above the over-performances of the boiler have been converted in electrical
power credit in order to show with expressive figures the obtained benefit.
This has been done by the means of technical considerations in two ways:

a. RH pressure drop: correction curves from Steam Turbine manufacturer has been
used for evaluating the corresponding kWe credits on ST side
b. Boiler Efficiency: plant balance calculations

Regarding to auxiliary power consumption, by applying the corrections foreseen in Boiler

performance test procedure 30390-A-M1007 Rev. 03 (see details at Par. 3.6):

FDF power absorption due to higher heat to steam

GRF power absorption due to lower Cold Reheater Temperature

The overall under performance is 783 kW, as shown in detail in the below table.

FDF GRF Measured

Guarantee Units Guarantee Measured Delta
correction correction Corrected

Total auxiliary power

kW 7500 8818 - 54 - 481 8283 783
consumption (case 2)

It is clear that the over performances given by the boiler itself are much greater than the
underperformance of Fans (approx. 7 times bigger).

By subtracting the overall credits to the auxiliary power over absorption, the situation is as
reported:
Total power absorption underperformance [kWe] 783 -
Total power credits [kWe] 5662 * =
Total equivalent power over absorption [kWe] - 4879

* Power Credit evaluated on technical considerations

Where the negative sign means that the Fans under performance is much more than
compensated by the good boiler behavior.
Obviously the negative shortfall means a positive result for AC.

In the next page the overall test results are reported.
