ASSESSMENT

PURPOSE
To promote a positive attitude towards learning, encourage the pursuit of excellence, and contribute to
the access and success of all students.

AIMS
Assessment procedures will reflect the total development of the student.

Assessment will encourage students to reach achievable goals.

Assessment will provide relevant information to parents and students about the range of learning
situations which are used to help students experience success.

Assessment will provide a cumulative and on-going record.

Assessment will assist in the diagnosis of the students strengths and weaknesses in relation to the
learning goals.

Assessment procedures will be based on the Curriculum guidelines.

Assessment procedures will facilitate the collection of data for school accountability requirements.

GUIDELINES
The schools assessment practices will involve collaborative decision making at team levels and be
based on the Curriculum guidelines. The teachers responsibilities are to:
ensure that students have a clear understanding of the activity goals, including what and how much
work they will be required to do, the quality of that work, and by when the work should be
completed
assess the full, range of learning outcomes using a variety of assessment methods, given that
achievement of different types of learning outcomes will be demonstrated in different ways
maintain and update each students cumulative record
ensure testing is not used to emphasis comparisons between students
have a common interpretation of the Curriculum learning outcomes and the criteria used to assess
them
