Mantrasareimpulsesorrhythmsoftheconsciousness.Theycreatevibrationsinthespirit.Theireffects,influence,
methodandmodeofworkingareallamystery.
InSanskrit,itissaid,Mananatrayateitimantra.Mantraisthatwhichsavesyoufromrepetitiveness.Arepetitive
thoughtisaworry.Mantrashelptofreeyoufromyourworries.Oftenwewonderwhywechantsomesoundswithout
understandingtheirmeanings?Cansomethingbeyondourunderstandinghelpus?

Themeaningofeverymantraisinfinity.Itisasoundvibrationbeyondthecognitionofthemind.Whenthemindis
unabletocognize,itsimplydissolvesandmovesintoameditativespace.
HowMantrasAffecttheMind?
Themantraislikeaseed.Everyseedhasthepotentialtobecomeatree.Similarly,thesesoundvibrationscontainall
thepossibilitiesofcreation.Somemantrasareintheseedform,calledthebijamantras.Othersarefullyexpressed,i.e,
thefruitofthemantraisalsoexpressed,suchastheGayatrimantra.
Mantrasareasecret.Thatwhichiskeptasecretalertsthesubconsciousmind.Themantrasworkatthelevelofthe
consciousness.Whenwewantaseedtosprout,itneedstobesownintothesoil,hidden,asecret.Ifitissimplythrown
around,birdsmayeatthemup.Wecanreadandlearnaboutmantrasandtheirusesfrombooksandtheinternetbut
thatwillonlysatisfytheintellectandnottranslateintoexperience.
MantraandMeditation
Whenwechantthemantras,orlistentothem,wegetpurityofmindandword.Thispreparesusformeditation.Asa
resultofthesoundvibrations,differentpatternsofthemindrearrangethemselvestobecometranquil.Agitationis
reduced,helpingustoturninward.Forinstance,whenwelaugh,ourhappinessincreases.

levelintotheexperientiallevel.
Whenthemindiscalmandcentered,itcanturninward.Onlyamindturnedinwardcanexperiencethevastnessand
beautyoftheDivineconsciousness.Whenourfocusisoutwardontheobjectsofthesenses,ourmindisscatteredand
racingbehindonecravingoranother.Physicalsensesseektoknowallabouttheexternaluniverse.Meditationisthe
toolforinnerexploration.
AntarmukhiSadaSukhionewhosemindisturnedinwardiseverinbliss.Mantrasarethetoolswhichallowthemind
todissolveandreposeintheSelf.
WhyshouldwereposeintheSelf?Howisthisgoingtohelpinourdaytodaylife?
Whentheriveriscalm,thereflectionisclearer.Whenthemindiscalm,thereisgreaterclarityinthefieldof
expression.Oursenseofobservation,perceptionandexpressionimprove.Asaresultweareabletocommunicate
effectivelyandclearly.
Mostofourproblemsormisunderstandingsarisebecauseofalackofpropercommunication.Whenourmindisfree
fromagitation,thewayweinteractandcommunicateissomuchmorepleasantandeffective.Oureffortsarenot
hinderedbyriftscausedduetocommunicationgaps.Thisleadstoalotofpositivityinouroutlookandprogressinlife.
Mantrasareassubtleastheairwhichcreatesripplesinthewaterasitgentlymovesoverit.Airisallpervadingandat
thesametimeaffectsspecificregions.Thefieldofthemantrasisalsosuch.Itisallpervadingandalsocreatesan
impactontheonewhoispracticing.
