Newark, NJ, 7/15/2010 - FP YOUTHOUTCRY or Future Potential of Young Organized and

Unified Talent, Housing Opportunities, Understanding and Togetherness in a Crusade to Re-
capture Yesteryears, is the brainchild of Newark native Al-Tariq Best aka Mzundastood. A noted
Hip-Hop artist and entertainer, he has toured nationally spreading a positive message of
community, entrepreneurship and empowerment since the early 90’s. After witnessing a
traumautic event, a man being brutally attacked on the streets of Newark, and moreover in front of
his four young sons, he was charged with a simple call to action. His eldest son, deeply saddened
by the event and the rising crime in Newark, asked “What are you doing about it dad?” launching a
crusade that would bring healing, accountability and unmarked creativity to a city so desperately in

need. In 2006, Al-Tariq created FP YOUTHOUTCRY, a non-profit organization that aims to provide
alternative programming to youth of families in underserved communities.

Through core program Rhymes4Reasons, a music education experience and alternative school
program held at the Newark Housing Authority ‘Club House’ in Newark, FPYOUTHOUTCRY is
gaining national recognition. The ‘Club House’s’ state-of-the-art studio allows for instruction on
audio engineering, sound recording and the business of music. Led by super-producer/ writer
Donald Richardson, a former Def Jam Recording Label Artist that captured two gold albums with
his group The Black Flames, the students experience label executives, artists, producers and
engineers for hands on training. They also visit BET’s 106 & Park show for a monthly taping and
welcomed interaction with hosts Terrance and Roxie.

Other FP initiatives include: MTOL: My Thoughts Out Loud, a traveling youth power summit,
FIST: Families Involved in Structured Training, free weekly self-development classes, MAN-
UP: Mentors Advocating for the Needs of our Unlimited Power, a mentoring program targeted
to males between the ages of 9 and 26, PIF: Pay It Forward, a job research/ placement program
with a community service requirement for applicants, and The Day of Healing Ceremony,
providing a collective healing process to the city.
