EUROCOPTER EC 130 helicopter.

Internal air system (Refer to the Figure 75-00-00-990-2)


(1) General
The internal air system pressurizes the labyrinth seals, cools
certain parts and supplies the balancing of the forces.
All the parts of the system are internal except an external air
tube for the pressurization system of the power turbine
labyrinth.
NOTE: The internal air system is also called secondary air
system.
(2) Main components
The main components of the internal air system are:
- The internal passages
- The calibrated orifices
- The external tube for the pressurization of the power turbine
labyrinth.
(3) Functional description
There are:
- The front section system
- The gas generator HP system
- The power turbine system.
(a) Front section
The pressurized air from the centrifugal compressor inlet
pressurizes the front bearing labyrinth-seals.
The air from the same point flows to the compressor bleed
valve, on the compressor casing. When the valve is open,
some air is discharged overboard.
(b) Gas generator HP section
The air from the centrifugal compressor tip flows through
the curvic couplings, the hollow shaft and the internal
passages.
(c) Power turbine section
An external tube takes the air from the front face of the
centrifugal compressor casing (clean air) to the reduction
gearbox casing. This air then passes through the internal
passages to pressurize the labyrinth seal on the power
turbine shaft and to cool the rear face of the power
turbine disc.

C. Air tappings (Refer to the Figure 75-00-00-990-3)


The air tappings are necessary for:
- The fuel control (to give the signals of the pressure and the
temperature)
- The start injector ventilation
- The aircraft services
- The bleed valve control.
The air tapping unions are located on the front face of the
centrifugal compressor.
(1) Start injector ventilation
The air from the centrifugal compressor outlet ventilates the
start injectors to avoid a blockage by the carbonization of the
unburned fuel.
The system has the air tapping union and a tube.
This tube connects the union to the start electrovalve.
(2) Fuel control
A P3 pressure transmitter measures the air pressure at the
centrifugal compressor outlet.
A T1 temperature probe measures the air inlet temperature.
The temperature and pressure signals are transmitted to the
electronic control unit.
(3) Aircraft services
The air from the centrifugal compressor outlet flows to the
various aircraft systems.
NOTE: The use of this bleed is rectricted during take-off.

TUBES AND THE UNIONS OF THE AIR SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION


1. Description of the tubes and the unions of the air system (Refer to the
Figure 75-29-00-990-1)
A. General
The tubes are necessary for the air flow and the transmission of the
air pressure.
(1) Modifications
TU094: Bleed valve - Pollution control device.
TU141A: Air system - Addition of a third attachment point of the
PT pressurization P2 pipe.
TU151: External air system - Air bleed supply pipe capable of
modification TU155.
B. Description
All the tubes have:
- A rigid hose of 6 mm or 8 mm in diameter
- A connection system, which includes:
. A union nut and a flanged union
. Or, two flanged unions.
C. Main tubes
The main tubes are:
- The bleed-valve P3 tube
- The tube of the P3 air pressure-transmitter
- The P3 tube of the fuel valve assembly
- The power-turbine P3 tube.

Operation
The valve prevents the compressor surge by bleeding off a
certain quantity of the air from the axial compressor outlet.
When the valve is open, the discharge of the air causes the air
flow through the axial compressor to increase. It thus moves the
operating line away from the surge line.
The operation of this valve is controlled at a non-dimensional
speed; it depends on the P3/P0 pressure ratio.
(a) Open position
The P3/P0 pressure ratio is not sufficient to operate the
capsules and there is an air leak downstream of the
calibrated orifices:
- The butterfly valve is open
- The microswitch contact is closed and sends a signal to
the electronic control unit.
(b) Closed position
When the gas generator rotation speed (N1> increases, the
compression ratio P2/P0 increases, and beyond a certain
value:
- The piston moves down under the P3 pressure and rotates
the butterfly valve through the rack and the pinion
mechanism
- The valve closes and stops the air tapping
- The microswitch contact, operated by the piston, opens.
There is no signal to the electronic control unit.

P3 AIR PRESSURE-TRANSMITTER - DESCRIPTION/OPERATION


Description and operation of the P3 air pressure-transmitter
A. General (Refer to the Figure 75-41-00-990-1)
The P3 air pressure-transmitter senses the air pressure at the
compressor outlet and supplies a signal to the electronic control
unit.
The P3 air pressure-transmitter is on the ignition unit support.
(1) Main components
The main components of the P3 air pressure-transmitter are:
- The transmitter body
- The mounting flange
- The electrical connector.
B. Description (Refer to the Figure 75-41-00-990-2)
The P3 air pressure-transmitter system includes the P3 tapping, and
the tube connected to the pressure transmitter.
It has a bridge of resistors printed on a flexible support.
The electrical connector, connected to the electronic control unit,
has the input and the output pins.

The air pressure pushes the flexible support- The distortion of the
support supplies an output voltage of the resistor bridge which is
proportional to the air pressure, for a constant input voltage.
The pressure signal is used by the electronic control unit for the
engine control (the fuel flow limit, the surge control).

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS OFF.
WARNING: DO NOT BREATHE THE OIL VAPORS. MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA WHERE YOU
WORK IS OPEN TO THE AIR. DO NOT GET THE OIL ON YOUR SKIN. PUT
THE RUBBER GLOVES AND A FACE SHIELD OR THE SAFETY GOGGLES. THE
OIL CAN BE POISONOUS.
CAUTION: BEFORE ANY CONNECTION, MAKE SURE THAT THE CONNECTOR(S) ARE IN
GOOD CONDITION. REFER TO TASK 70-43-00-200-001.

NOTE: I n s t a l l the nut (01-014) on the bleed valve s i d e.

Test of the P3 air pressure-transmitter (Refer to the Figure


75-41-00-990-1301) (Refer to the Figure 75-41-00-990-1302)
A. Test procedure
NOTE: Replace the P3 air pressure-transmitter if anomalies are found.
(1) Measure the value of the input resistance.
(a) Measure the value R across the pins 1 and 4 of the
connector of the P3 air pressure-transmitter (01-010).
NOTE: The resistance R must be between 1 and 10 Kohms.
(2) Measure the value of the output resistance.
(a) Measure the value R1 across the pins 2 and 3 of the
connector of the P3 air pressure-transmitter.
NOTE: The value R1 must be between 0.3 Kohms and 2 Kohms.
(3) Measure the insulation resistance at 50 volts.
(a) Measure the value R2 across the pin 1 and the connector
body of the P3 air pressure-transmitter (01-010).
NOTE: The insulation resistance must be more than 20
Mohms.
(4) Do a functional test of the P3 air pressure-transmitter.
(a) Prepare the P3 air pressure-transmitter for the test.
1 Connect the connector fitting for P3 transmitter (A)
of the hydraulic pressure generator (B).
2 Install the external sensor (C) on the hydraulic
pressure generator (B).
3 Connect the external sensor (C) to the pocket digital
pressure-gauge (D).
(b) Install the P3 air pressure-transmitter with the preformed
packing (75-29-00-01-440) on the connector fitting (A).
(c) Connect the harness (F) across the P3 connector of the
engine harness and the P3 air pressure-transmitter.
(d) Connect the output harness (F) to the multimeter (E).
(e) Connect the input harness (F) to the multimeter (E).
(f) Energize the aircraft power supply (to supply the power to
the Engine Electronic Control Unit).
(g) Make sure that the input voltage (Ve) is 10 VDC 0,5.

NOTE: According to the atmospheric pressure (P0) of the
place, it is necessary to correct the 0 to the
pocket pressure gauge dial for an original value of
absolute 100 kPa (0 x).
Examples:
(a) Atmospheric pressure = 980 hPa (98 kPa), x
correction = 98 kPa - 100 kPa = -2 kPa, Set -2kPa
to the pocket pressure gauge dial.
(b) Atmospheric pressure = 1,030 hPa (103 kPa), x
correction = 103 kPa -100 kPa = +3 kPa, Set +3 kPa
to the pocket pressure gauge dial.
(c) Atmospheric pressure = 820 hPa (82 kPa) (place
altitude = 1,300 meters), x correction = 82 kPa -
100 kPa = -18 kPa, Set -18 kPa to the pocket
pressure gauge dial.
(h) Slowly increase the pressure in the system.
(i) Stabilize the pressure at each value (100 - 400 - 600 kPa)
(14,5 - 58 - 87 PSI) read on the pocket pressure gauge.
(j) Read at the same time the value of the output voltage (Vs)
of the P3 air pressure-transmitter when the pressure
stabilizes at the different values (100 - 400 - 600 kPa)
(14,5 - 58 - 87 PSI).
(k) If the input voltage (Ve) is not equal to 10 V but within
tolerance, re-calculate the output voltage values of the
transmitter measured at each point according to the
formula that follows:
Vs = (measured Vs x 10 v) / measured Ve
(10 v = theoretical Ve)
(l) Compare the read/recalculed values read with the values of
the theoretical curve (0.3 mV tolerance) to find the
correct operation of the P3 air pressure-transmitter.
(m) Remove the test equipment from the P3 air
pressure-transmitter.
(n) Remove and discard the preformed packing
(75-29-00-01-440).
B. Post maintenance operations
(1) Install the P3 air pressure-transmitter. Refer to Task
75-41-00-900-001.
