PREPARATION FOR CAMBRIDGE EXAMS

Writing for KET exam - Part 9 (email, note, card,

message, postcard)
By: Jhonny Tapia
The basics:
Tips and hints: It is important to read carefully all what is being
asked. To get a good mark, you MUST write responding to the three
prompts on the guided writing. You must write at least 25 words.
Dont forget to write both greeting and signature at the beginning
and end of the message/note/email/postcard. Begin and end your
message correctly.
Remember it is just a short reply, so dont add unnecessary details,
what is being stated on the instruction. Youve got to take up to 15
minutes to write your answer. Whoever trying to get over this section
MUST know how to use in a real context past, present and future
tenses. Preparing, planning, writing and checking are a must before
you get started with writing.
If you know the answer for these questions then you are ready to
succeed in Cambridge KEY. What do you have to do in this task? How
many questions do you have to answer? What are the questions? How
many words should you write? Where do you write your answer in
the exam? What is the estimate time limit you should spend writing?
Have you checked your grammar and spelling after writing? Have you
used capital letters and full stops as proper as it is?

Greetings Signatures

Speaking English Why it doesnt improve?

Often people feel like after studying English for a number of years,
they see no improvement. They have probably learnt a little and they
now know it is sort of tricky to make more progress. Then a question
whose answer is difficult rises: Why exactly we dont improve.

1. You dont spend enough time on learning it or on attempting to

improve your peaking. You.ve got to do it every single day.

2. You are too passive about learning English. Speaking is active

learning

3. You dont revise what you have learnt.

4. You rely on your native language too much.

You are always focused on mistakes. What if I am wrong?

5. You dont put things in context. It is a must to know how a word

works in a sentences and how it fits in a structure. Dont store the
words you learn on a pile of notebooks. Use them instead every day
trying to find the right moment and time to use them.

6. Dont feel afraid of being wrong, because you are learning and a
good consequence of it is improvement.

Features of good speaking.

Smoothness: You dont hesitate, you dont repeat yourself, you go

from one piece of info to another without much difficulty, you dont
pause a lot.

Strong grammar: able to construct completely clear and accurate

sentences. Connection:

Be specific and descriptive: It is important to make it more detailed

more than talk in a general way. Why dont we just give a general
comment about something and probably some supporting ideas to
make our speaking clear and attracting.

Topics for difficulty.
