Teams
each team will consist of 6 players one being a designated goalkeeper.

Substitutions
substituting may occur at any time that a team has possession, during your teams kick-in, your
teams goal kick/corner kick, and any time that the opposing team is substituting a player.
substitutions may also occur after a goal.

indoor soccer
a player who receives a yellow card must be substituted.
any player may change position with the goalkeeper - change must be made in stoppage of play.

Duration of Play
Each game will consist of two fifteen minute halves with a three minute half time.
Each team is permitted one time out per game that may be called during a stoppage of play.

Playing Rules
No offside
goalie may not hold the ball for more than five seconds (Foul: indirect free kick from top of circle)
goalie may put the ball in play by either throwing or kicking it. The goalie may not score a
goal on a throw or punt (foul: Indirect free kick from top of the circle.)
goalie can use his/her hands only within the penalty area. (foul will result in a direct free kick)
the ball must bounce in the goalkeepers own half before crossing the centre line (foul: indirect free kick from centre
line.)
anytime a player deliberately kicks the ball to his/her own goalkeeper, the goalkeeper is not permitted to

touch it with his/her hands. (foul: Indirect free kick awarded to the opponents at the spot of the violation,
unless in the goal area).
slide tackling is not allowed under any circumstances (Foul: Red card ejection)
walls-if play becomes dangerous near the walls the referee will stop the game and restart the game with a
drop ball in a safer position
Legal:
players may only use their hands on the wall to slow down their momentum
Illegal:
players may not use two hands on the walls to gain advantage
a player may not use two hands on the walls to shield an opposing defender,(obstruction indirect kick) will be called.

Start and Restart of Play


at the start of play each team lines up in its defensive half - the game is started when the ball is kicked into
play. The ball must start on the centre line and be kicked forward. No opposition player can be within 4
metres.
the player taking the kick is not permitted to kick the ball again until it has been touched by another player.
(Penalty: indirect free kick)
a dropped ball is used to restart play following a temporary stoppage.

Ball In and Out of Play


the ball is out of play:-
- when it completely crosses the goal line
- when it hit the ceiling - lights - heating/cooling ducts (Penalty: indirect free kick)
- when it is placed at the top of the circle for the goalie to bring it back into play.

the ball remains in play at all other times including when it rebounds off the goals.

Scoring
a goal is scored when the whole ball crosses over the goal line between the goal posts and under the cross
bar provided a foul has not been committed by the scoring team in the act of scoring
a goal can be scored:-
- directly from a goal kick
- directly from a corner kick
- if goalkeeper throws or kicks the ball into his/her own goal
Free Kicks
Direct free kicks - a goal can be scored directly
Indirect free kicks - a goal can not be scored unless a player other than the kicker touches the ball
direct free kicks are awarded:-
- handling the ball
- kicking or attempting to kick an opponent
- tripping or attempting to trip an opponent
- jumping at an opponent

- charging an opponent
- striking or attempting to strike an opponent
- pushing an opponent
- holding an opponent
- slide tackling an opponent

indirect free kicks are awarded:-


- if the goalie holds the ball for more than five seconds
- if the goalie scores a goal when bringing ball back into play
- if the ball does not bounce in goalkeepers half before crossing centre line when bringing ball back
into play
- if a player intentionally obstucts an opponent
- if a player plays in a dangerous manner

Penalty Kick
awarded for any infringement in the goal area that would result in direct free kick.
a penalty kick is taken from the penalty mark and:-
- all other players must be outside the penalty area and at least 4m away from the mark
- the goalkeeper is only permitted to move laterally between the goalposts
- the ball must be kicked forward
- if the ball rebounds off the goals the player taking the penalty is not permitted to play the ball again
until touched by another player

Out of Play
if the ball goes out of the playing area it is kicked back into play from the point at which it went out of play
a goal cannot be scored from the kick in

Drop Ball
drop ball occurs:
- when ball goes out of play off two players simultaneously
- following suspension of play
- fouls committed simultaneously by two opposing players

Goal Kick
a goal kick shall be awarded to the defending team when the ball crosses the goal line, having last been
touched by the attacking team.
players opposing the kicker shall remain outside the penalty area until the ball moves out of the penalty area.
a player of the defending team shall kick the ball from the ground at any point within the goal area. A goal kick
must clear the penalty area and enter the field of play or the goal kick will be retaken.
after the goal kick leaves the penalty area, any player except the one who executed the goal kick may play
the ball.
goal kicks are direct free kicks.

Corner Kick
when the ball is last touched by the defending team and goes over the goal line, a member of the attacking
team shall take a kick from within the quarter-circle at the corner closest to where the ball crossed.
players of the team opposing that of the player taking the corner kick shall not be within 4m of the ball until it is in
play.
after the corner kick is first touched, any player except the one who executes the corner kick may play the
ball.
corner kicks are direct free kicks.

Activity

Divide class into three teams.

Rules
Game is played on a netball court - goal area is marked by the semi circle at either end of the
court.
To commence the game players line up in their defensive halves - the team winning the toss
plays the first ball back into their own half on the whistle. No player other than the kicker is
permitted in the centre circle at the commencement of play.
Players may enter the goal circle but:-
i. kicked shots for goal must be taken from outside the circle.
ii. players may head a goal from inside the goal circle.

practical session
Following a goal the game recommences from the centre.
Goalies are permitted to play the ball with their hands inside the goal circle.
Under no circumstances is the goalie permitted to kick or throw the ball over the half way line
(i.e. ball must be touched by another defensive player in the defensive half before crossing the
centre line)
Goalie rotation - assign a number to each team member - rotate the goalie in number order at
the end of each half

Round Robin Activities
