Tier 2 Academic Interventions

Identification:

The PBIS Tier 2 team checks the grades of each student at mid-quarter and report card time.
Student with any combination of 3 Ds or Fs in core classes are identified for Tier 2 Academic Interventions

**Individual teachers are asked to monitor and support students with 1 D or F; students with 2 Ds or Fs should
be supported by the team & Homework Haven; students with 3 Ds or Fs will roll onto Tier 2 Interventions,
along with continued support from the team.**

Step 1: Boost Your Grades (BYG)

When students are first identified for Tier 2 Academic Interventions, they are placed onto Boost Your Grades.
Each week, the student will check out with a Tier 2 representative to discuss and share their current grades with
their parent/guardians either via email or phone.
If the student does not meet with the Tier 2 representative Thursday afternoon, they will be called to check out
with the team representative Friday afternoon to call home and relay their grades to their parent/guardian.
At the end of 4 weeks, if the student has 2 or fewer Ds and no Fs, they will be rolled out of the program.

Step 2: Quiet Study Hall (QSH)

Students with a combination of 3 Ds or Fs following their 4 weeks on BYG will then move on to Quiet Study
Hall.
Students in QSH will continue to follow the BYG procedure in addition to QSH.
Students will participate in QSH three days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
QSH locations: 6th grade - Room LL1; 7th grade - Room LL15; 8th grade - Room 111
Students are required to meet the supervisor in the QSH room at the beginning of their lunch period and will
walk down to the cafeteria to get their food. They will return and eat lunch in QSH.
Student work folders will still be located in the work room. It is the responsibility of the team teachers to fill,
empty, and update work in the folders each week.
If an assignment has a due date, then it must be noted. Students should only be working on assignments for
which they are able to receive points.
Updates on upcoming tests/ quizzes should be included as well, so that students can study, make flash cards,
etc.
Teachers should also include extra credit or enrichment assignments in the folders, in case students finish
missing work. This work needs to be labeled as such so that the supervisor can prioritize student work.
At the end of 4 weeks, if the student has 2 or fewer Ds and no Fs, they will be rolled out of the program.

Step 3: Extended Quiet Study Hall (EQSH)

Students with a combination of 3 Ds or Fs following their 4 weeks in QSH will then move on to Extended Quiet
Study Hall.
Students in EQSH will continue to follow the BYG procedure in addition to EQSH.
EQSH follows the same procedures as QSH but will take place 5 days a week during lunch/study hall time.
At the end of 4 weeks, if the student has 2 or fewer Ds and no Fs, they will be rolled out of the program.

Step 4: Referral to Tier 3

Students who are not making progress after 8 weeks, a Team Consult will take place to decide a more
specialized intervention, such as a simple functional behavior assessment or an individual problem solving
meeting.
This step may include a specialized academic goals and strategies as indicated from the target behavior. Be
aware that the definition of progress will be individualized per student.

Tier 2 Behavior Interventions

Identification:

SWIS is reviewed weekly by the Tier 2 team to identify students who need Tier 2 Behavior Interventions.
Students who receive 3 detentions per quarter for disruption, defiance, disrespect, or physical aggression should
receive a verbal warning from the team.
Students who receive 5 detentions per quarter for disruption, defiance, disrespect, or physical aggression will
receive Tier 2 Behavior Interventions.
Students who receive an in school or out of school suspension for disruption, defiance, disrespect, or physical
aggression are automatically identified for Tier 2 Behavior Interventions; students with in school or out of school
suspension for other behavior issues will be considered for Tier 2 Behavior Interventions on a case-by-case basis.

Step 1: Check-in/Check-out (CICO)

When a student rolls on to CICO, an e-mail will be sent out to notify the staff.
Students on CICO will receive a CICO sheet from their 1st period teacher every morning, and are expected to
take it to each of their teachers throughout the day.
6th grade students will check out with Ms. Weston (6A) & Ms. Murphy (6B); 7th grade students will check out
with Mrs. Svozil (7A) & Ms. Kempton (7B); 8th grade students with check out with Mrs. Coci (8A) & Mrs. Greune
(8B).
Students need to receive 80% of their points each day in order to meet their goal for the day.
If students do not turn in their CICO sheet at the end of the day, the consequences will be as follows: 1st =
conversation/reminder, 2nd = phone call home and no a la carte for one week, 3rd or more = additional
consequences to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
If the student has earned 80% of their points for four weeks, the student will be rolled off of the CICO program.

Step 2: Referral to Tier 3

Students who are not making progress after 8 weeks, a Team Consult will take place to decide a more
specialized intervention, such as a simple functional behavior assessment or an individual problem solving
meeting.
This step may include a more specialized point sheet which indicates the target behaviors for the student. Be
aware that the points and criteria to meet expectations on these sheets may be different than those listed
above.
