Place we have visited

1st week

Asansol TSS
we have seen layout of substation, buried rail, substation equipment ,single feeder.
Actually there were two transformer one is standby and one is in service but due to
constraint the substation is served with one transformer.
Lightening arrester and its counter( how many time it has arrested lightening)
Noted the resistance of earth pit.
Sf6 gas circuit breaker(crompton greeves make)
Isolators
Breather (silica gel in orange colour)
Vacuum circuit breaker
Baffle wall
Dedicated oil spillage collection pit ( in which spillage oil is collected)
We have been to Material Store seen there contact wire bundles, catenary wire
bundles, caution board
2nd week

Visited to tildanga for foundation casting at locations 261/7 (BG-10) , 261/8 (BG-10).
Locations of mast are marked by sub contractor & respective implantation is given in
Line chart (mast implantation at this location was 3m).
Casting details are given in volume chart given by contractor. Excavation is dne by
hand.

Visited Tildanga -bonidanga section at location 261/15(BG 6),261/30(BG12), 261/11


(BG 6), 261/12 (BG-6).

Visited to kotalpakur to witness mast erection but since no mast erection was done
we have seen OHE inspection Car :

It is RE special mast erection train whose Tower wagon no is 020(8-wheeler). 2 BRN


wagons are attached , one BRN is loaded with crane and other BRN wagon is loaded
with mast. CBC coupling is between BRN & BRN, screw coupling is between BRN &
tower wagon. Raising platform in TW which is motor operated, 2 engines for more
propulsion power. one generator of 5KVA for night light purpose and dedicated phone
from cab1 to cab2. Different devices installed are drill machine, bench vice, drum lock,
panto checking area, catenary & contact wire drums.

For BG-10 foundation length along the track (A) is 2m


length across the track at base (B) is 1.9m
length across the track at top (C) is 0.8m
depth of foundation (H) is 1.6m
volume for BG-10 is 4.256 cum without muff

Step distance (distance between existing rail level to the top of foundation) shouldn't be
more than 50cm for regulated OHE and 40 cm for unregulated OHE.

4th Week

Conducted survey at Takia nala Bridge, Pagla Bridge and Farakka canal bridge for
mast erection feasibility.

Takia Nala
(33m length, height 6.1m) , location 270/0
250mm clearance for overbridge.
No mast requirement is there inside bridge.
Normal catenary height 7.20m
Maximum gradient allowed 3mm/m
Min. Encumbrance is 40cm, 25cm(in case of hard dropper) as in this case
6.10m(overbridge height)- 5.60(min. contact wire height)=50cm(which is sufficient
enough for encumbrance and clearance from bridge structure).

Pagla Bridge
(length 4*45.76m, height 6m), location 267/7 268/0.
pillar to pillar distance is 48.5m
Height up to angle is 4.6m
Height rail level to pillar is 1.65m
distance from rail level to pillar end is 5.10m
distance from rail level to bridge 2.82m

Farakka canal bridge


Height is 6.90m.
Pillar to pillar distance is 79.5.5m, 80.10m, 79.5m (total 4 pillars)
Height rail level to pillar is 2.30m
Distance from rail level to pillar end is 5.10m, 5.15m
Distance from rail level to bridge 3.12m
Distance of mast from cross over should lie between 150mm to 700mm
(best between 450mm-650mm)
for bridge mast of large height is required.

Visited to RE material store at Malda


Testing : 25KV Porcelain and composite insulator testing, load testing tested at 4900kg
load i.e 70% of rated load 7000kg).
load(hydraulic pressure) is build gradually , If any crack, breaks, thread sleaves are
found then insulator is discarded.
Testing equipment has two calibrated readings digital and analog. Tested in presence of
railway employee and serial numbers are written on all tested insulators.

Cube testing: cube is replica of foundation material. Hydraulic pressure is used to test
the cube. As testing unit was out of order, separate third party test is done at civil
department of polytechnic college. One sample of size 50cucm (one set) for one
kilometer is the bench mark. 225kgf pressure for cube testing.

Pipes of different diameter are available there from which bracket arm, register arm,
steady arm are cut to size and are used in fabrication of cantilever assembly.

Droppers schedule varies with span and are placed separately as a set.

Different equipments available are drilling machine(for drilling of pipe), dropper ,runners,
fabrication machine, dark clamp, bonds , u bolt, droppers(5 mm diameter size),
anticreep, sectioners, bolts of different sizes, a,b,c,d clamps.

Catenary and contact wire bundles are provided by Railways and remaining all things
are procured by the contractor.

All material should be RITES certified.

5th Week

Visited Takipur for foundation casting at locations 37/40(BG-12),37/40(AB DF-2),


37/TKP/1018(AB DF-1).

DF is for dwarf mast


In DF-1 guy rod at 65 degree and in DF-2 guy rod at 45 degree.
In DF-2 maximum horizontal pull is 2000kg and in DF-1 is 1300kg.
DF-1 is used for anchorage of AC/Rc feeder and DF-2 for anchorage of regulated OHE.

Foundation concrete is M-15 and Core concrete is M-20.

We sat in Inspection car along with inspection authority and have seen the following
At SP, we have seen inspection of batteries in battery room, Isolator operators
operating knowledge, clearances of boundary fencing from installations, metering of
earth pits, condition of various bonds, condition of silica gel.

At LC gates we have seen inspection of guaging of height of contact wires of different


lines with respect to rail level by rod, level gauge height, width of rail gauge.

At ROB we have seen clearances of catenary from bridge under structure, height of
contact wire with respect to rail level, height of catenary wire with respect to rail level,
metering of near by earth pits.

We have seen inspection of tower wagon shed, various stations in the inspection line.

At TSS Tapsi we have seen inspection of conditions of TSS and installation of various
equipments as per layout diagram, meggering of earth pits, caution boards.

8th Week
