Working together to make New Zealand SAFE for animals 2017 Autumn Update

Its happening!
Over the last few months, thousands of caring Kiwis
have been politely asking Countdown to name the
date by which they will stop selling cage eggs and
Countdown is finally starting listen.

You have written messages on Countdowns Facebook page, emailed

Managing Director Dave Chambers, signed petitions, attended
protests, distributed flyers, put up posters, filled in customer feedback
forms, displayed public community notice cards and phoned store
managers. Countdown is feeling your pressure, and last month
announced that their own brand eggs will be cage-free by 2022.

Thats a positive start that will help get around 70,000 hens out of
cages. But it still leaves hundreds of thousands of hens needlessly
suffering just so that Countdowns owners, Aussie company
Woolworths, can turn a profit. Woolworths listened to their Australian
customers and made a commitment to going cage-free by 2025,
but they have a deaf ear when it comes to caring Kiwis. Thats why
we need your help to keep the pressure on and show them that
were just not going to go away.

Brand new TV ad to help
get hens out of cages
Thanks to you, for four weeks from 3rd April
a powerful new ad showing the reality of cage cruelty
will be shown on national television.

Airing during popular shows such as Shortland Street, The Voice,

Breakfast and Coronation Street, the ad will be seen by an estimated
2.2 million Kiwis. Thats 2.2 million people that will see the reality
behind the production of cage eggs, and then have the opportunity to
tell Countdown how they feel about it. Furthermorethanks to
your donations and support from Screen Vistasthe ad will also be
WATCH the ad at safe.org.nz shown at cinemas across the country, ensuring that even more
people are reached!

Countdown sells one in five eggs in New Zealand. When they go fully
cage-free, around 350,000 hens will be saved from a life of suffering
in a cage. Whats more, a commitment to going cage-free from
New Zealands biggest supermarket chain will help halt the expansion of
the cruel new colony cage system in New Zealand before it really takes
root. When that happens, the end of cages for hens will truly be in sight.
If you havent already seen the ad, visit safe.org.nz or keep an eye out
during the ad breaks of your favourite show.
