Title: Skoglund Structures Course: Photography

The Big Idea (Overall Concept): Time: Grade Level:
Repetition for Variety 4 Days 10-12
Description of Lesson (Brief Summary):
Students will be introduced to the work of Sandy Skoglund. There will be a brief
presentation that describes Skoglunds work and some of her processes/concepts.
The focus of the presentation/talk will be on her use of color (complimentary) and
shapes (repetition). Students will then be asked to build Skoglund like models using
common items/food planned for photographing it.

Materials Needed:
Cardboard, spray paint, noodles, bottle caps, colored yarn, DSLR cameras, light kits,
cereal, marshmallows, other groups of small objects

Instruction (Day by Day):


Day 1: Presentation 30 minutes; Plan, collect supplies, start building mini dioramas
Day 2-3: Finish building; Start photographing on backdrops; Edit photos as needed
Day 4: Finish photo editing, present best 3 photos

Evaluation: Formative Summative


Teacher will be discussing ideas and
