Land Based Rigs

At IRI we've manufactured drilling rigs

and their support equipment for close to a

century. Since 1901 our primary focus has

been the consistent production of quality com-

ponents for the drilling industry. Shown at

right is IRI's open faced cantilever mast, on

an HFM substructure.

Shown in operation at left is an HFM 142-

1000 substructure and mast, with an Ideco

E-2100 drawworks.

Offshore Drilling
Today's rigs must pass a battery of safety and

ecological obligations to meet the regulations of

governing bodies such as the Norwegian

Petroleum Directorate and the UK

Department of Energy. IRI is well-versed in

the application of these regulations to offshore

drilling rigs and has worked closely throughout

the years with third-party certifying agencies

such as Lloyds of London, DNV, and ABS.

IRJ International can provide components for the rig refur-

bishment-process. Above is the Petrolia while in use west of the

Shetland Islands. The Petrolia has undergone modification for

deployment to the North Sea.

The barge drilling unit, shown at left, uses IRI equipment

for its specially designed shallow water capabilities. This rig is

able to reach target areas with water depths as shallow as four-

teen feet in the difficult nearshore environment.

Offshore Workover

'&

Workover rigs, built entirely at the Ideco and

Cardwell plants, are custom designed to meet

each customer's specifications. Shown directly

above is a model that includes Ideco's telescop-

ing mast model KM-136-VH and the 700

series electric drawworks. Above right is a

small, yet versatile ivorkover package that can

be placed, between capping beams or cross-

mounted.

At right is the Cardwell-built Sundowner

Offshore workover rig during operation in the

Gulf of Mexico.

Self Propelled Rigs

IRI's selection of mobile rigs features the Franks, Ideco and

Cardwell technologies. At right is the Cardwell KB-250A

with a 255/108 mast in operation in the Four Corners

region of New Mexico. Directly below is an Ideco 300

series, customized with an articulated front end for the

narrow roads and difficult Siberian terrain. Additional

customized features include a weather-proofed driller's

cabin and an electric and diesel dual-drive system.

over 80 different alloys in 25-ton heats to meet

a wide array of our client's needs, forging

capabilities reach an impressive 25-inch OD

and up to 35 feet in length. Our electroslag

refining process, below left, in operation since

1975, is one of the few in the world. This sec-

ondary melting process removes more than

ninety percent of the non-metallic impurities

such as oxides, silicates, and sulfides.
