CRITERION IV: INFRASTRUCTURE AND LEARNING RESOURCES

4.1 Physical Facilities

4.1.1 What is the policy of the Institution for creation and enhancement of
infrastructure that facilitate effective teaching and learning?

Our policy is to anticipate future requirement and take necessary steps to create the required
infrastructure to facilitate effective teaching and learning. The Governing Body of the college
facilitates financial assistance or grants to this purpose. Keeping in view the current
dynamics of effective teaching along with demands made by introduction of new courses, the
academic committee in consultation with other college committees routinely makes policies
to update and renovate the existing infrastructure. Its regular monitoring has helped in
optimal usage. The following initiatives have been taken to meet the growing needs of the
college:

Recently 16 Classrooms, Laboratories, New Cyber Centre and Teachers Research


Institute (TRI) Block have been built. A convention centre is also under construction.
Uninterrupted power supply for whole college has been provided by installing a 250 KVA
silent DG set with AMF panel.
Ramps and toilets for visually and differently abled students have been constructed

New Chemistry laboratory-Department of Chemistry in the College has a spacious, and


well-equipped laboratory. Recently, an additional new laboratory equipped with sufficient
facilities along with preparatory, balance, store, filtration and instrument rooms was
inaugurated by Prof. Dinesh Singh, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi.

New Cyber Centre- The cyber centre is a well equipped air conditioned networked LAN
Laboratory which is connected with Delhi University network via optical fiber with a speed
of 40 MBPS. Wi-Fi facility is also available throughout the college premises. The centre is
equipped with the latest computers, software, LCD projectors, printers and a power backup
(UPS) supply making it extremely useful for teachers, students and non-teaching Staff.

New Teachers Cyber Centre- On 31st July 2013 a new Cyber Centre meant only for
teachers was inaugurated by the Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi. It
provides teachers aid in their research work and access to the the E- resources subscribed by
the university library.

Journalism Lab- The Academic block has a Journalism lab with a state of the art modern
studio with the latest equipment providing opportunity to the students and staff to meet their
incremental needs.
Computer Lab- The first cyber centre was established in the year 2007 with 40 computers
and the college was connected with DU through radio link initially in 2012.

Class Room Projectors- LCD Projectors have been installed in all the classrooms of the
academic block in keeping with new age teaching and learning methodologies using videos
and power point presentations etc.

Well equipped Library- The College has a well-stocked library. The book collection is
divided into three sections, i.e. General, Textbook, and Reference Sections. The library
houses a collection of over 75,000 books on different disciplines that are issued to students to
help them excel in their field of study. The library subscribes to a large number of national
and international journals. Photostat facility and E Resources are also provided in the library.

Sangam Parisar- To promote participation in extra curricular activities along with providing
quality education, the college has an auditorium known as 'Sangam Parisar' for holding
Seminars, Workshops, Lectures, Debates and Cultural activities. Renovation and expansion
of the auditorium along with installation of LCD Projectors is planned for the next academic
session.

4.1.2 Detail of the facilities available for

specialized facilities and equipment for teaching, learning and research etc.

Science Block: The Science Block comprises of four different science departments with
well equipped laboratories to meet course requirements.

Chemistry lab- Department of Chemistry has two spacious labs with requisite facilities.
Physics lab- Physics Department has well equipped labs. The department has a separate
dark room for conducting practicals and possesses all the equipments required for Laser,
Thermal and Fiber Optics experiments.
Zoology lab- The Department has a laboratory which is well furnished with latest
equipment. The department also has a museum with up-to-date specimens.
Botany lab The Department also maintains a laboratory and a museum which includes a
herbarium. The students routinely go on educational trips in order to collect new
specimens and update the exhaustive herbarium.

b) Extracurricular activities sports, outdoor and indoor games, gymnasium,


auditorium, NSS, NCC, cultural activities, public speaking, communication skills
development, yoga, health and hygiene etc.
Extra- Curricular activities
NCC
The NCC Cadets of Kalindi College are encouraged to participate in various functions and also
trained to co-ordinate and work during disasters.
Sports, Outdoor and Indoor Games
Sufficient space for sports and extracurricular activities is available. The facilities provided by
the college are:
A spacious playground is used for outdoor games like hockey, basketball, handball, badminton,
volleyball and lawn tennis etc. In indoor games there is an approved plan for constructing a
facility for Gymnasium. Sangam Parisar also serves as a multi purpose room which is used for
dance and choreography. Various tournaments are routinely organized in the college with active
engagement of students from all streams.
Plans have been made and submitted to UGC for grant to construct basketball and badminton
courts and a hockey ground to provide better sport facilities to the students. It is also proposed to
provide:
Water arrangement in the play Field
Store for sports equipment
Bus for players
Sports Kit provided to all players taking part in inter-college competitions.
Payment of TA and DA to outstanding players for participation in state, national and
international competitions.
Provision of adequate refreshment and diet for all the players
Cultural Activities- The college organizes various cultural activities, public speaking forums
and lectures on communication skill development. Fitness trainig is provided to the students
through health, hygiene and Yoga classes. The Sangam Parisar and Unmukta Parisar are
equipped to handle these events. There is also a dedicated room for the practice of dramatics and
music.

4.1.3 How does the institution plan and ensure that the available infrastructure is in line
with its academic growth and is optimally utilized? Give specific examples of the
facilities developed/augmented and the amount spent during the last four years
(Enclose the Master Plan of the Institution / campus and indicate the existing
physical infrastructure and the future planned expansions if any).

The college campus caters to the growing needs of its students and faculty. There is an
optimal utilization of the available infrastructure with class rooms and laboratories being
occupied from early morning to evening for teaching programmes.
Skill development courses, academic functions, national and international
conferences, workshops, cultural programmes and college festivals are routinely held
in the auditorium.
The Seminar Hall is regularly used for conducting seminars and presentations
The college grounds are used for various sports activities.
Campus is also used for various activities organized by NCC, NSS and different
cultural clubs.
In collaboration with different NGOs like Red Cross Society, Utthaan etc. camps and
workshops are organized from time to time.
Class rooms are utilized for Remedial classes and Add-on courses.

Specific examples of the facilities developed/augmented and the amount spent during the last
four years
To meet the increased demand for infrastructure a new Teachers Research Institute
with 16 classrooms to accommodate 700 to 800 students has been constructed. The
project was developed by the PWD with an approximate cost of Rs. 2.5 Crores.
The amphitheatre or Unmukta Parisar has been constructed in the playground by
PWD with a cost of around 11.5 Lakhs to hold various cultural festivals etc.

In future the college is planning the following projects:


Creation of additional classrooms by constructing a new block at an estimated cost of
2.5 Crores with the project to be undertaken by the PWD. This block will have
students common room, conference hall and other class rooms which would be linked
to the old academic block.
Extension of existing Auditorium i.e. Sangam Parisar-This project has been granted to
PWD to execute the work with an estimated cost of Rs. 2.5 crores. This project will
increase the capacity by doubling the existing auditorium. Renovation and expansion
of the auditorium along with the amphitheatre are planned for the next academic
session.
It is proposed to extend the library block at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 Lakhs. The
project shall be given to PWD for execution.
A plan for Girls Hostel has been approved with a sanctioned strength of 216.
4.1.4 How does the institution ensure that the infrastructure facilities meet the
requirements of students with physical disabilities?
To meet the requirement of the physically disabled students, ramp facilities have been
provided in the administrative block, old administrative block, canteen, science block
and library.
There is also provision of free laptops with latest software for the students.
An elevator is also in the pipeline to meet the needs of the differently-abled.
Classes for the differently-abled are scheduled on the ground floor.

4.1.5 Give details on the residential facility and various provisions available within
them:

Hostel facility is in pipeline.

4.1.6 What are the provisions made available to students and staff in terms of health
care on the campus and off the campus?

Medical room with first aid facilities.


There is a doctor Dr. Rajshree Lal in Kalindi College, since 2011, who has been
addressing physical and psychological health of students.
Regular health camps are organized for students and staff.
The college is located very close to B.L. Kapoor Hospital which in case of medical
emergencies can be easily accessed.
In case of emergency the patient is taken to the nearby hospital or the doctor is called
to the college.
Meditation, yoga camps and art of living courses are also organized.
College is planning to set up a gymnasium and yoga centre.
A number of water coolers connected to Aquaguard are available in all the buildings
of the college and in common areas.

4.1.7 Give details of the Common Facilities available on the campus spaces for special
units like IQAC, Grievance Redressal unit, Womens Cell, Counselling and
Career Guidance, Placement Unit, Health Centre, Canteen, recreational spaces
for staff and students, safe drinking water facility, auditorium, etc.

IQAC
It is housed in the Student Council Office of the college. It assures internal quality by
planning for new courses at UG and PG level, introducing more teaching aids to improve the
teaching-learning process and encourage innovative practices, enhancing the infrastructural
facilities in terms of space, equipment, laboratories, libraries etc.

Womens Cell
The counsellor Dr Rajshree Lal is available part time to sensitize the students about issues
related to both mental and physical health.

Counselling and Career Guidance


Career Counselling is provided to the students by carrying out various workshops.
Career counsellors are invited time to time to enlighten the students about various
career prospects.

College Placement Cell


College placement cell actively helps students find successful placements.
Various organisations are invited for on-campus & off-campus placements.

Grievance Redressal Unit


Student grievances are addressed directly or through the students union and speedy redressal
is carried out.

Health Centre
A medical room is there in the college in which basic medical care is provided. The college is
located very close to B.L. Kapoor Hospital which can be easily accessed in case of medical
emergencies.

Canteen
The college canteen provides a warm and friendly environment for the students and staff to
enjoy their food. The canteen is under the guidance of the canteen committee that regulates
the hygiene and quality standards. There is also a Nescafe counter.

4.2 Library as a Learning Resource

Yes the library has a committee named Library Committee. The committee constitutes of
Core committee members including Principal and the librarian in addition to all the Teachers-
In- Charge of departments.

College has well established IT infrastructure catering to the diverse requirements of students
and staff. College has a fully functional website and the campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

technology (computers, softwares and printers, with a power backup (UPS) supply) making it

Computer and internet facilities is made available on campus to the faculty and both on
and off campus to the students. Over 1000 laptops have been provided to the students
(Make HP, Model Probook 445G1, 8 GB RAM/ AMD Elite A65350M 2.9 GH
processor, specs: Ubuntu 12/).

4.3.3 What are the institutional plans and strategies for deploying and upgrading the IT
infrastructure and associated facilities?

The college has a common computing facility such as Cyber Center for students and
Research Center for teachers. Routine upgradation of IT as required the departments
and requirements of the curriculum. The campus is WiFi enabled with state of the art
IT facilities. A well equipped journalism lab is present with multimedia facilities and
the Department of Mathematics has proposed to develop a computer lab for its
students.

4.3.5 How does the institution facilitate extensive use of ICT resources including
development and use of computer-aided teaching/ learning materials by its staff
and students?

The College has a sufficient number of computers, printers, scanners and LCD
Projectors which the staff can utilize to prepare their course material/lectures and
students can use to access various resources online.

4.3.6 Elaborate giving suitable examples on how the learning activities and technologies
deployed (access to on-line teaching - learning resources, independent learning,
ICT enabled classrooms/learning spaces etc.) by the institution place the student
at the centre of teaching-learning process and render the role of a facilitator for
the teacher.

All the classrooms are fully equipped with projectors and the campus is WiFi enabled.
Teachers conduct their classes on projector using power point presentations and online
demos. In addition to this, the college has two Cyber Centres having a total of 155
computers. Of these one is dedicated to enable research and access online resources by
college staff. A fully functional college website is also maintained by the college for
the relevant information.
