Thecoursesareprovidedatnochargetoyourcommunity,butyoumustprovidemeals
andclean,safe,andsecureaccommodationsforourinstructor(s)duringtheirweek
longstay.Wesendoneortwoinstructors,dependingonthesizeofyourcommunity.

SwimtoSurviveSwimmingLessons:Childrenandyouth
attend4daysof13hourbasicswimminglessons(weather
dependent).Certificatesaremailedoutforallparticipants.
Thethreeskillstheylearntopreventdrowningare:

Howtoprotectyourselfwhenfallingintothewater
(dontpanic),
Howtotreadwaterforoneminute(locatesafety),
Howtoswimfor50metres(gettingtosafety).

WaterSmartSafetyClinics26hourcourses:Thesesessions
provideyourcommunitywithsafetyinformationonspecific
waterrelatedtopics.Theywillincludepresentationsandhands
onactivitiestoreinforcethelessonsineachcourse.Youcan
chooseoneormoreofthefollowingtopicsdependingonyour
communityneeds:

BoatOperatorAccreditedTraining(B.O.A.T.)This6
hourcourseallowssuccessfulcandidatestoearntheir
TransportCanadaPleasureCraftOperator(PCO)Card.
Candidatesmustattendtheentirecourseandpassa
writtenmultiplechoicetestinordertobesuccessful.
WaterSmartforKidsThis2hourdrylandprogramis
designedforchildrenages612andprovidesthemwith
basicwatersafetyandfirstaidtraining.
WithinArmsReachThis2hourdrylandprogramcovers
thesupervisionofyoungchildrenbyparentsorcaregivers
in,onoraroundwater.

EmergencyFirstAid&CPRLevelA8hourcourse:ManitobaWorkplaceHealthandSafety
recognizesthiscourseasFirstAidLevel1.Eachcandidatewilllearnbasicrescueskillsfor
generalemergenciessuchasbleeding,brokenbones,burns,choking,headinjuries,poisoning,
andCPRandAEDusageforadults.

Tohostourprogram,youandyourcommunityarerequiredto:
providefoodandclean,safe,andsecureaccommodationsfortheinstructor(s)duringtheir
entireweeklong(MondaytoFriday)stayatnocosttotheinstructor(s),
markettheprogrambyusingourpostersandpromotionaltips,
transporttheinstructor(s)toandfromtheairportinyourcommunity(ifapplicable),
supporttheinstructor(s)duringtheirstayby:
o transportingthemtoandfromwaterfrontandclassroomlocations,
o assistingwithorganizingclasses,
o assuringthatinstructorsaresafeandcomfortable,and
o alwaysbeingreachableincaseofemergency.

The2017NorthernWaterSmartProgramwillrunfromJuly3toSeptember1,2017.Applicationsare
dueby4:00PMonMay24,2017.Wewillcontactyoutoconfirmthedateswewillvisityour
communityonorafterJune7weareunabletoprovideconfirmationofdatesbeforethattime,nor
canwemakespecialarrangementsgiventhelargenumberofapplicationswereceive.
