LEBANON AMERICAN CLUB NEWS APRIL 2017 Page 2
22 West Street
Danbury, CT 06810
News Staff Corner:
Well, Id better watch what I say!! In last Months newsletter, I mentioned the spring-like weather but warned of a possible
snowstorm and sure enough the biggest one of the season hit us!!! We are still waiting for the snow piles to melt away. Soon
the outside wooden trim will be repaired and painted making our building look presentable once again. Remember this is
your building and anything you can do to make it cleaner, neater, or more presentable will be greatly appreciated; just
remember to discuss any issues with House Chairman John Ashkar.
I know it is later than usual to mention this but some of our ad subscribers have not paid for their ads. If all ads are paid for
the cost of publishing your monthly newsletter does not use any money from the clubs treasury. So please be sure that your
newsletter ads are paid for.
We are still looking for any announcements, stories of travel, family news, or anything of interest to include in this
newsletter. Feel free to share these with your brother and sister members. Finally, pay attention to the calendar and list of
upcoming events so as not to miss any of our clubs functions. Your participation is the best form of club support any
member can do.
Thoughts to Live By:
Defeat doesnt finish a man, quit does. A man is not finished when he is defeated. Hes finished when he quits. President
Richard Nixon (1913-1994).
It is not so much what we have done amiss, as what we have left undone, that will trouble us, looking back. Ellen Wood,
English playwright and journalist (1813-1887).
A Little Humor:
Be nice to people on the way up. Theyre the same people youll pass on the way down. Jimmy Durante, American
comedian (1893-1980).
Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he isnt. A sense of humor was provided to console him for what
he is. Horace Walpole, English author (1717-1797).
Member News:
Since our last newsletter, we have sworn in our newest member, Joseph Raya, nephew of Marlene and Pres. Mike Caravakis.
Welcome Joseph, you have joined a group of men that you can look to as family.
We also have two other applicants who are awaiting induction. They are Samir Baddour, sponsored by Tony Haddad, and
Elie Mitri sponsored by John Mounayar. We hope to have more applicants in the near future. If you have a family member or
friend who may be interested in joining, feel free to bring them down for a Friday night dinner to introduce them to our club.
Special thanks to John Hanna, Nadeem Bourjaili and to all who attended the Friday Night Dinner Dance on 3/31.
Memorial Day Parade:
The Annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 29, 2017 in downtown Danbury. This will be the 6th Year
the Lebanon Club and Ladies Auxiliary will participate in the parade. Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day
held on the last Monday in May, is a day of remembering the men and women that died while serving in the USA Armed
Forces. We encourage all members, families and friends to come and proudly represent the club and respectfully honor those
that have given their life for our country. More info to be available in the May Newsletter.
Lebanon Day Postponed due to Heritage Park Built at City Hall:
The City of Danbury will begin construction of Heritage Park in front of Danbury City Hall in April with a projected
completion in July. During construction, the Lebanese Heritage and the Italian Cultural monuments will be removed and
stored to be reinstalled in the completed Heritage Park. Due to construction, the Lebanon American Day, usually held in late
June, will be rescheduled to late July or early August. Tom Saadi met with City officials and LAC Officers to select the
location for placement of the Lebanese Heritage Monument in Heritage Park. Prior to and after storage a LAC Committee
will inspect the monument to ensure it is not damaged.
Updates will be published in the LAC Newsletter once a firm installation date is set, the LAC will schedule Lebanon Day.

Please keep our ill members in your prayer and notify Pres. Mike Caravakis, whenever a member falls seriously ill by
sending an email to caravakis@aol.com.
