Extra Co-curricular Activities Do Contribute in Students Achievement

A very good afternoon to the House Speaker, the honourable adjudicators, the precise time keeper,
my fellow oppositon speakers, my worthy opponents from the proposition and the members of floor.
The motion of todays debate is Extra co-curricular activities do not contribute in students
achievement. Let me first define the key words of the motion. Co-curricular activities are defined
as the activities that enable to supplement and complement the curricular or main syllabi activities.
This house believes that extra co-curricular activities do contribute in students achievement.
Co-curricular activities may not be tested or graded, but they educate and benefit students in ways
that classroom activities cannot. Co-curricular activities may be one of the reasons many students
stay in school or find personal meaning for their middle level and high school years. Students who
are involved in co-curricular activities are able to extend and enrich previously learned academic
skills through competitions and real-world simulations. In the co-curricular setting, they may also
develop and practice artistic, musical, and climb, such activities as team sports create bonds that cut
across racial lines.
The aim of curricular activities is to make the students fit for the future time and to develop a sense
of competitive spirit, co-operation, leadership, diligence, punctuality, and team-spirit as well as to
provide a backdrop for the development of their creative talents. Whenever someone is chosen as a
head boy or is given leadership in certain matters, it boosts self-confidence and sense of
achievement. Extra activities for school students are a means to enhance social interaction,
leadership, healthy recreation, self-discipline and self-confidence. Competitions may also be
organized to create a competitive environment and groups with an objective to work towards a better
society and the world as well.
More often than not, the students who take part actively in cocurricular activities also take benefit
in their studies. The students, teachers and parents should be aware of the fact that which co-
curricular activity is beneficial. Every student performs in the studies at his best while taking part in
other positive activities, so one should not expect extra ordinary performance from every student
because he or she is also taking part in other positive activities which is not only helpful for the
development of his or her health but also it creates balance in his or her personality.
I strongly believe that given the right tools, students will thrive in taking charge of their own
development. School should not just provide the opportunities for students to achieve good academic
results but actively promote the benefits of a wider curriculum to students.
