thestrengthofthesparkandtomysurprise,foundthattherightsideplugwasnotproducinga
sparkatall.Hadfewlocalmechanicslookatitmostoftheseblokesdonotseemtothinkthisisa
seriousissueandsomedidnotevenunderstandwhattheheckIwastalkingabout.AsforBajaj
serviceI'vehadsuchhorridexperienceswiththem,Idon'twanttoletthesemoronsanywhere
within10feetofmybike.
EventhoughIcouldnotfindanydiscernibledifferenceinthebikesrunningcharacter,thiswasstill
atthebackofmymindallthetimeandoneweekend,Idecidedtoinvestigatethisonmyown.
Belowarethedetails:

1.Possiblesparkplugproblem?Rantothenearestautoshop,gotasetofnewplugsandchecked
sparkagainsparkproducedonlyonleft.Interchangetheplugs,stillsparkvisibleonlyontheleft
2.PossibleHTcoilproblem?InterchangedtheHTcoils.Nochangeinbehaviorsparkproduced
onlyonleft
3.PossibleHTleadproblem?Again,interchangetheleads.Stillsparkproducedonlyonleft
4.PossibleCDIunitproblem?Gotanewoneandpluggeditinnochangeinbehavioragain
5.Wiringharnessproblem?IwassuspectingthewirethatrunsfromtheCDIunittotheHTcoil.
CheckedcontinuitywithamultimeterfoundOK.
6.AsfarasIunderstand,theTPSreedswitchshouldnotcontrolwhethertherightplugworksor
not.ButtomakesureImanuallybypassedthereedswitchandtriedbothopenandclosedmodes,
butneithermadeanydifference.

Otherwise,thebikepicksupwell,runsperfectlyfineandhits100+comfortablyevenridingtwoup
(neverpushedherbeyondthat)andaveragesbetween42and48dependingondrivingconditions.
IfIhadn'topeneduptheplugs,guessitwould'vebeenalongtimebeforeIfoundout.

Iwillbegratefultotheexpertstoguidemewithfurthersteps.Prefertofixthisathomeunlessit
requiresspecialtools/skills.

Mods:lookslikethishasn'tbeendiscussedanywhereelsehencethenewthread.Kindlymergeif
I'mwrong.

Attheriskofupsettingsomeone,I'llsaythatinmyopiniontheconceptofusingtwosparkplugsin
acylinderisunnecessary.
Itisusedasasalespromotiontomakeavehiclemoreattractivewithoutreallyaddingany
noticeablebenefit.ThisalsoappliestotheRoyalEnfieldwhichtoutedthedualsparkplugsonsome
oftheirmodels.(My500ccfuelinjectedUCEonlyhasonesparkplugwhichworksverywellafterI
threwtheBoschplugthatthemotorcyclewassuppliedwithawayandreplaceditwithaNGK).

Myold1975HondaCB400FCafeRacerwouldreadilyrevtoover11,000rpmusingasingle
sparkplug.

Ifoneoftheplugsisnotsparkingtherewillbeanoticeabledropinpowerwhenyouride.Ifyou
arecuriousyoucandisconnectoneoftheplugsandridetoseewhathappens.Ihaveexperienced
thisunintentionallywhensomeonehadpulledoffthecablewhilethebikewasparked.
