PROCEDURE
Introduction (10 min.):
(hook, pre assessment, connection to curriculum, focus/learning area, expectations, Transition, groupings, overview)
Introduce myself /expectations/attendance Assessment
Go over pickle ball unit find out who has played it/where their understanding is at Observation
Introduce activities we are going to be doing today
Warm up: skipping and set up nets
Body (60 min.):

Activity #1 Ball Handling Relay Race (10 min): Assessment
Divide students up into groups of 5. Have half the team on the opposite side of the gym. The first
person in each group will travel to the other side of the gym performing the first task. They will
hand the ball over to the next player and that player will have to do the same task. The relay race
continues until each player has completed the following 3 tasks:
1. must balance ball on paddle and weave between cones
2. bounce ball on paddle
3. bounce ball alternating face of racket

After Relay Race gather students around one of the courts and explain the next activity Observation
Participation
Activity #2 Four Square (22 min): Peer Feedback
Split class into 3 groups. Go over the rules of 4 square (see below).
While people are waiting in line you are to practice rallying with a partner or rally by yourself
Objective:
- Get to the kings square
- Eliminate players by: Missing a shot, Missing a serve, hitting the ball and it touches the
net post (or it lands out of bounds), ball bounces more than once
Rules:
- ball is always served underhand from the kings square (4th square)
- ball can only bounce once
- if there is a disagreement there is a show down (two individuals in disagreement will
rally and whoever wins gets their way)

Activity #3 Pickle ball Volley Game (28 min):


Gather students around me and wait until they are quiet. Explain that we will be playing a mash

up between pickle ball and volleyball. Explain the objective and the rules (see below).
Demonstrate an under hand serve and show them the out of bounds lines. Ask if there are any
questions -> split them up into teams of 4. Games will be 4 min long, whoever wins stays on the
court and whoever losses switches off. The team not on will ref
Set up:
- 6- 8 players per court (4 per team)
- 1 player on the right and left sides of the forecourt and backcourt
Objective:
- Get as many points as possible
- you do not have to be serving to gain a point
Rules:
- ball can bounce max 2 times per side
- ball max of 2 players can touch the ball before it is sent over
- ball can only bounce once between one persons contact to the next
- cannot pass to yourself
- must serve to opposite court from the back baseline
