 Part One: Jonathan Seagull Came to China
Jonathan Seagull decided to go to China to continue his service and great
achievement of benefitting society.
Why he made this decision? It was a long story. Jonathan Seagull had

them, and also no any additional comments.
When talking about what was happiness, the seminar atmosphere became very
warm, the seagulls spoke in confusion about their viewpoints. Some seagulls
blurted: "Rich and powerful were happiness"; other seagulls also gave different
meanings of happiness, such as: having a cozy home; keeping lover company all
the life; enjoying health and safe; as well as: happiness should be located at
everywhere and depend on the sensation; do not seek painstakingly, because in
suitable case, happiness would reach at ease; and so on.
Finally, Jonathan Seagull wanted to confer with all the seagulls about how to
modify his original viewpoint, but Wang Xiaohua Seagull recommended that the
best modification should be made by Jonathan himself, this suggestion was
supported by all the seagulls.
After the break of ten minutes, Jonathan Seagull announced: changing "To
exert the best potential, reach out and touch perfection in that which they most
loved to do, in order to attain the realm of happiness." into "To exert the best
potential, as well as with the help of others, reach out and touch perfection or just
right in that which they most loved to do (or should to do, even have to do, and the
like), in order to attain the realm of happiness and/or without regret."
Listening to this, there was a prolonged applause ringed out at the conference
hall.

(B) New Annotations for "Heaven isnt a place or a time. Heaven is being
perfect."
Due to the success of the first seminar, second one was also held in a week
with the theme of "Heaven isnt a place or a time. Heaven is being perfect."
Considering that this time the participators were double, so the conference hall
was a larger one, but all seats were still occupied.
Before seminar, Wang Xiaohua Seagull recommended: the discussion could be
focused on two issues: firstly, what is Heaven? Secondly, how to get to heaven?
Both of these problems might be crossed, anyone was allowed to speak freely, and
not rigidly adhered to the form and order.
In addition, because the theme of the seminar involved questions of time and
space, so Li Shikong Seagull, who had argued intensely about space and time
issues with Hawkin, was specially invited. Not only he was readily agreed to
participate, but also asked two young seagull lovers to attend together.
Jonathan Seagull half-jokingly said: "I already understand the advantage of
'no debating, only comparing' or 'only comparing, no debating', therefore, at
present, basically I only apply my ears, while I will speak until the last."
Throughout this seminar, the discussion on "what is Heaven" was unceasing,
and successively there were dozens of opinions. Some seagulls spoke their own
viewpoints; some reported the viewpoints heard from others, or read from books. In
which the participants were deeply impressed by the following statements.
The existence of Heaven is compared with Hell, the place really is Heaven if it is
not Hell.
Some religions believe that Heaven is the place that all the souls of
kind-hearted believers should enjoy eternal happiness after death.
Heaven should be inhabited by gods in the sky.
Heaven is the surroundings of happy and brave life.
Great Harmony World (an ideal or perfect society) is Heaven.
Some seagulls thought that Heaven is hierarchical, coming to the city from
village is entering a Heaven, and then coming to the larger city is entering another
better Heaven. A seagull baker also said: "As comparison, I've made breads for
decades, and my breads already reach the level of perfection, so I also entered the
Heaven, it could be named the Heaven of bread. Afterwards I ate the top foreign
bread and understood the reason of 'outside a sky there is another sky', after
improving the processes, now I can make the more delicious bread, so I feel that I
reach the better place in the Heaven.
Several seagulls deemed that Heaven and Hell are interchangeable, namely
Heaven can be transformed into Hell, and Hell can also be transformed into Heaven.
And so on, and so on.
Appearing the smell of gunpowder for the first time, was caused by the young
college student accompanying Li Shikong, he said: "When the first time of reading
the book entitled Jonathan Livingston Seagull, I was deeply moved by the seagull
elders following guidance: 'Heaven isnt a place or a time. Heaven is being perfect.
Once you achieve the perfect speed, which is the beginning to reach Heaven. Note
that it is not 1000 miles per hour, not 1 million miles per hour, even not flying at the
speed of light. Because any number is limited, and perfection is infinite.' But later,
with the help of comparative sciences, I gradually realized that the original idea of
'Heaven isnt a place or a time' was meant to cut apart the concept of space and
time form the concept of Heaven, however finally I thought that these two concepts
cannot be divided."
"Why the concept of space and time and the concept of Heaven cannot be
divided?" Jackson Seagull presented a different opinion.
"By comparison, I get it: different seagull should have different Heaven in mind.
Saying based on concept of space, Chinese seagull should have Chinese Heaven in
mind, foreign seagull should have foreign Heaven in mind, and seagull of
Chinese-foreign miscegenation should have Chinese Heaven and foreign Heaven in
mind; and saying based on concept of time, past seagull, current seagull, and
future seagull should have different Heavens in mind. Therefore, the concept of
space and time and the concept of Heaven cannot be divided, is this correct?"
Jackson Seagull was speechless.
The girlfriend of this young seagull also said: "I think that past seagull can't
reach perfect speed, so only current and future seagulls may reach Heaven.
Moreover, until today, there is not a pair of seagulls to held wedding really in
Heaven, so we hope that we will be the first lucky couple to held wedding in Heaven,
at that moment we will invite everyone to attend our wedding."
Warmly blessing just sounded, it was rudely interrupted by a seagull who
wants to return to the ancients: "I protest! Why only current and future seagulls
may reach Heaven? Why past seagull cannot reach Heaven?
That young seagull attempted to defend his girlfriend: "Some seagulls families
suffered great disaster in history, so the descendants of these families would think
that there was only Hell and no Heaven in history. On the other hand, even if past
Heaven existed, now current seagull cannot go back to that Heaven, therefore
discussing past Heaven cannot make sense."
A SF fan disliked: "Riding the space-time ships, we can go back to the past or
into the future."
Whether or not we can go back to the past or into the future? Every seagull
looked forward to listen to the answer of Li Shikong seagull. However, an older
seagull, who was studying the comparative classical literature, said to Li Shikong in
advance: "I don't understand the physics, so you cannot dazzle us with the elusive
space-time theory."
Firstly, Li Shikong seagull smiled for everyone to set their minds at ease:
"Don't worry. My explanation will be very easy to understand than that given by
Hawkin in his book entitled A Brief History of Time for Seagulls." Seeing the
appearances of all seagulls were absorbed, Li Shikong Seagull told with ease and
fluency: "In my opinion, either by space-time ships, or by using other methods, it is

"Why?" The SF fan stared to ask.

dedicated to give his ancestor a big birthday peach weighing one kilogram, then
this birthday peach certainly caused a stir, even disturbed the Emperor, therefore
that would also start a new history having a big birthday peach in the alternate
universe. Note that at this time, one universe already changed into two universes.
Then for the second time comparison, another seagull also went back to the past
and gave his ancestor another gift, such as a mobile phone or a video camera, thus,
whether or not another new history and the third universe should begin? Similarly,
if a billion Chinese seagulls to do the same things, whether or not there will be
created a billion universes? Is this possible?"
That SF fan scratched his head, and had to say: "it seems to be impossible,
why I didn't think of it?
Li Shikong Seagull went on to say: "It is also impossible to go into the future.
Supposing a seagull is carrying a group of ordinary coins and stamps go into the
future after thousands of years or ten thousands of years, then he will easily get the
great wealth, when returning to the Earth, then he can become the richest man in
the world. If other seagulls doing the same things, the richest man in the world
should be often changed like a trotting horse lamp; in addition, the society after
thousands of years or ten thousands of years, will also be disturbed for being out
of order; is it possible? And similar absurd things, as long as you are willing to list
and compare, will be countless."
Wang Xiaohua Seagull concluded: "Obviously, it is impossible to go back to
the past or into the future by riding the space-time ships and other methods. While,
how can reach the current Heaven, please continue the discussion.
Smith Seagull reminded the others: "Jonathan Seagull already said, with
perfect speed, Heaven can be reached."
A juvenile seagull that just joined the society of comparative sciences said:
"For perfect speed, it is really a way to reach Heaven, but it is not the only way. As
comparison, I proposed: the perfect banquet can reach Heaven of delicious foods;
the perfect wedding can reach Heaven of love; and the perfect school can reach
Heaven of knowledge; is this true?" He tried to ask a scholar of comparative
philosophy with his eyes, apparently he hoped that to get compliments from this
scholar at his side. However, the answer was: "Perfection is only an ideal or
theoretical state, as comparison, 'perfect' should be replaced by 'very good' or 'very
pretty'. Taking banquet as an example, the delicacy satisfied by seagulls in
southern, may be disliked by seagulls in northern; and the so-called 'perfect
banquet' for seagulls in southern, may be disagreed by seagulls in northern; is this
correct?" The juvenile seagull refused to obey: "I heard that, the communist society
is Heaven. In this Heaven, our students no longer have to suffer, and we can learn
all knowledges with eating a pill; in that case, is everywhere perfect?" This scholar
of comparative philosophy revealed a dismissive look, but as he saw President
Wang's eyes, immediately found that this manner was improper, and then he
patiently explained: "There are also contradictions and struggles in the communist
society, otherwise the society will not move forward. Do you think this is true?"
That juvenile seagull thought for a moment, and smiled sheepishly. However, in
order to redeem his face, he proposed: "Besides space and time, Heaven also have
to consider social and natural environments, do not establish good social and
natural environments, such as the pollution is serious, Heaven cannot exist." This
opinion was endorsed by everyone.
As the author of two books entitled Comparative Tao De Jing and Comparative
Analects of Confucius, Wen Chunqiu Seagull was not easy to get the chance to
speak: "When I was in the process of writing these two books, I tried to compare
with the similarities and differences of different views and ideas between China and
Western countries, and found that the Chinese seagulls had to handle the
complicated relations between seagulls, while the Western seagulls had not to do

alone, but for the Chinese seagulls, they may be more willing to go to Heaven
together with their parents, children, spouses and friends, this was the so-called
'enjoy happiness with others, overcome difficulty also with others'. This is one
distinguish that between some Chinese seagulls and some American seagulls."
Wang Xiaohua Seagull smiled: "You claimed that 'this is one distinguish that
between some Chinese seagulls and some American seagulls', that is a better, even
a very good way of saying, it could avoid many problems."
A female seagull, who often considered everything carefully in normal times,
said: "Generally, I never act alone, at least I should ask that what can I do as
encountering risk?" Even as the sound of her voice died away, she was ridiculed.
So she was very dissatisfied with this: "Why it is so funny? May I ask the male
seagulls who laughed at me a moment ago: 'if your mother or your daughter was
invited to go to Heaven alone, would you agree?' Even if a male seagull was invited
to go to Heaven alone, he should think again and again; recently, some adult male
seagull was kidnapped to be cut out organs."
Hearing this, many male seagulls shivered all over though not cold, and said
that they cannot accept the invitation to Heaven alone in the future. That female
seagull went on to say: "Also, as comparison, the luxurious tour group often
provide for doctors, whether or not going to Heaven should provide for doctors?
Finally, take into account the positive aspects, I also hope that I can go to Heaven
as a member of the collective."
Atmosphere of the seminar became more and more lively, but the hands of
clock already passed the scheduled time, and the discussion should be finished.
Like the first seminar, all the seagulls hoped that Jonathan could present the new
annotations for "Heaven isnt a place or a time. Heaven is being perfect."
Although originally Jonathan was going to present such new annotations after
this seminar, seeing everyone's expectant eyes, Jonathan asked all the seagulls to
have a rest for the time being.
After brief discussion face-to-face with President Wang and several senior
seagulls, Jonathan Seagull declared to give the new annotations temporarily:
"Heaven is a comparative and dynamic concept. In General, Heaven is the special
position of space and time as well as social and natural environments that allow the
bodies and hearts of members and community reach happy and joyful state in a
way."

(C) Comparisons in the Book Entitled Jonathan Livingston Seagull

After two seminars, Wang Xiaohua Seagull invited Jonathan Seagull went to a
Chinese teahouse for talking.
To Jonathan Seagull, this was the first time to taste Chinese famous tea,
apparently he was not accustomed to Chinese tea, so he just drank a few, then put
down teacup, and no longer want to drink again. Seeing this, Wang Xiaohua said:
"You will find that, some seagulls that didn't drink tea, after drinking several times,
would gradually know the good taste of tea." "Obviously, you should have a hidden
meaning." Feeling the time is ripe, Wang Xiaohua Seagull said: "Recently, I read
several times of the book about you with the eyes of comparative sciences, step by
step to see clearly that, in this book many examples can be used as the models of
comparative sciences, or they are deeply coincided with the principles of
comparative sciences."
"Really?" "Yes. "Then, please comment without sparing."
Wang Xiaohua Seagull took out the book about Jonathan Seagull printed in
English and Chinese, he looked it up and down firstly, then he searched that book
and talked tirelessly: "Please look this, we can read at the beginning: 'a thousand
seagulls came to dodge and fight for bits of food.' Here, 'dodge and fight for bits of
food' means that to compare who is faster and stronger." "Yes." "Then we can read:
'Most gulls dont bother to learn more than the simplest facts of flight - how to get
from shore to food and back again. For most gulls, it is not flying that matters, but
eating. For this gull, though, it was not eating that mattered, but flight. More than
anything else, Jonathan Livingston Seagull loved to fly.' Here, it is very sharp to
compare the difference between Jonathan Seagull and other seagulls." Then, Wang
Xiaohua Seagull pointed at the following sentence and said: "Here, 'I just want to
know what I can do in the air and what I cant, thats all.' In order to get the
conclusion, the comparison is also required."
Jonathan Seagull looked that book carefully and found that, all the parts
related to "comparison", were made red marks and comments.
 Some comments show that, after many comparisons, Jonathan Seagull finally
realized that, when speed reached fifty miles per hour, must hold the wings still.
Some comments also show that, "In ten seconds he had blurred through ninety
miles per hour. Jonathan had set a world speed record for seagulls!" In other words,
to compare with other seagulls, Jonathan was the fastest one.
"If I were meant to learn so much about flying, Id have charts for brains. If I
were meant to fly at speed, Id have a falcons short wings, and live on mice instead
of fish." Here, Jonathan tried to compare his brains with charts, and compare his
wings and foods with falcon.
"Thats the answer! What a fool Ive been! All I need is a tiny little wing, all I
need is to fold most of my wings and fly on just the tips alone! Short wings!"
Jonathan finally found the method that his wings can be compared with falcon.
The wind was compared with the monster roar: "The wind was a monster roar
at his head."
To compare "fishing boats" with "specks"; and to compare "flock" with "dust":
"From five thousand feet the fishing boats were specks in the flat blue water,
Breakfast Flock was a faint cloud of dust motes, circling.
By comparison again and again, the way to take a sudden turn was found: "A
single wingtip feather, he found, moved a fraction of an inch, gives a smooth
sweeping curve at tremendous speed."
Jonathan Seagull was expelled from the flock as an alien, but after further
exploration and comparison, finally found a method of "happy and healthy long
life": "What he had once hoped for the Flock, he now gained for himself alone; he
learned to fly, and was not sorry for the price that he had paid. Jonathan Seagull
discovered that boredom and fear and anger are the reasons that a gulls life is so
short, and with these gone from his thought, he lived a long fine life indeed."
At the end of the first part, the similar "comparison" can also be found, for
example, the two seagulls that bright wings like the starlight said to Jonathan:
"Weve come to take you higher, to take you home."
Wang Xiaohua Seagull cheerfully ready to continue the enumerations of the
contents about "comparison" in Part Two and Part Three of that book, but he was
interrupted by Jonathan Seagull: "Not necessary to list again, I've learned that:
'comparisons' exist everywhere, and 'comparisons' exist forever." "It's awesome,
you said so well."
Jonathan Seagull continued: "Not only that, but also two of the most
attracting viewpoints in this book had the close relationship with 'comparison'. For
instance, to 'Heaven isnt a place or a time. Heaven is being perfect.' Heaven was
compared with perfect. As another example, 'To exert the best potential, reach out
and touch perfection in that which they most loved to do, in order to attain the
realm of happiness.' That meant that, after comparison, in a variety of different
degrees of 'to reach out and touch success in that which they most loved to do',
taking 'to reach out and touch perfection in that which they most loved to do' as the
standard of to attain the realm of happiness."
Wang Xiaohua Seagull said happily: "My dear friend, your perception is really
good, you have now become an expert in the field of comparative sciences."

Part Three: Paradise of Success

(A) Comparison and Innovation
Hearing Wang Xiaohua Seagull said that becoming a expert in the field of
comparative sciences, although Jonathan Seagull recognized that this was
encouraged and exaggerated, he was still very happy, and caused him the interest
to learn more about comparative sciences. Like the way of ambient other
customers, he drank some tea water and kept it in mouth for a moment, then
swallowed it slow and said: "This time, it seemed to me to drink some taste of it."
"What taste?" Wang Xiaohua Seagull asked with a smile.
Jonathan Seagull clued: "In fact, before coming to China, Jackson Seagull
already told me with a ring call that, Chinese scholars already expanded
comparative literature, and got 'Comparative Sciences Clusters'. Then I checked
the information, in the United States only the wordings of comparative literature,
comparative law, and comparative sociology, and so on, can be found, but had not
the wording of 'Comparative Sciences Clusters', that extremely surprised me."
"Why?"
"Speaking impolitely, in my previous impression that, Chinese students could
only learn by rote, Chinese scholars could only repeat word for word what others
say, in short that Chinese seagulls lacked imagination and creativity. Although
recently the situations already changed, Chinese seagulls only got innovative
achievements in individual areas, while to achieve such groundbreaking results in
so big scope, I never hear these, so I was very surprised when I heard."
Wang Xiaohua Seagull said: "Yes, for various reasons, in the past, quite a lot
Chinese Seagulls lacked imagination and creativity. But Chinese Seagulls had a
character, namely once they knew their deficiencies and shortcomings, and
determined to correct these, and then they can always find the ways with Chinese
characteristics. In fact, Chinese seagulls already found some ways and means to
promote imagination and creativity, the creation of 'Comparative Sciences Clusters',
was just one of effectual way."
"Please tell me more detail."
"All right. 'Comparative Sciences Clusters' was proposed by a Chinese scholar
in early 2016, while their buds already existed in many disciplines, but there were
no sum up and improvement. 'Comparative Sciences Clusters' include:
comparative social sciences clusters, comparative natural sciences clusters,
comparative interdisciplinary sciences clusters, and so on. Among them,
comparative social sciences clusters include: comparative literature, comparative
history, comparative philosophy, and so on; comparative natural sciences clusters
include: comparative mathematics, comparative physics, comparative chemistry,
comparative medicine, comparative biology, and so on. In addition, comparative
literature itself can also be expanded. Under the two main categories of research
and practice, comparative literature can be expanded into: comparative literature
research, comparative literature practice (including comparative essay,
comparative fiction or novel, comparative poetry, comparative drama, and so on),
comparative literature research and practice, and so on.
Jonathan Seagull chimed in: "Wait a minute, please briefly explain the
meanings of comparative essay, comparative fiction or novel, comparative poetry,

"In comparative literature practice, special emphases were given on
application of comparative method in literary creation. Therefore, naming the essay
created by comparative method as comparative essay, the fiction or novel created

created by comparative method as comparative poetry, the drama created by
comparative method as comparative drama, and so on."
"Wait a minute, you have just said, there were many comparisons in the book
entitled Jonathan Livingston Seagull, then whether or not it can be named as
comparative fiction or comparative novel?"
"It cannot. Because this book was not to highlight the comparative method, in
other words, at the time of writing that book, the comparative method was not used
conscientiously, so there was only the bud of comparative fiction or comparative
novel in it. Otherwise, for the reason that, almost all of the fictions or novels include
a lot of comparisons, then nearly all of the fictions or novels can be called
'comparative fiction or comparative novel'."
"Can you give me an example?"
"For the sake of convenience, allow me to show an example of 'comparative
poem'." Wang Xiaohua Seagull fetched out a printed draft and explained: "Strictly
speaking, 'comparative poem' also has a variety of forms. Here comparing a
famous short poem written by Hungarian Petofi Seagull only. Firstly, taking the
original poem as 'positive draft': Life is precious, love is valuable; if for the sake of
liberty, both can be given up. Secondly, writing the 'comparative draft', here we can
list five comparative drafts. Thirdly, putting 'positive draft' and 'comparative draft'
together, and making each line constitutes a pair of couplet. In this way, five
complete comparative poems are formed as follows."

Life is precious, love is valuable; (Ideal is the noblest, struggle never stop;)
if for the sake of liberty, both can be given up. (spreading positive energy,
moving towards victory with heroic sentiments.)

Life is precious, love is valuable; (Men can push up sky, women can host
family;)
if for the sake of liberty, both can be given up. (to desire good results,
arranging in groups of men and women.)

Jonathan Seagull seemed to understand: "I know it."

But he still had some question: "While, I'm not sure, how to link 'comparison'
with 'innovation'."
Wang Xiaohua Seagull was clearly prepared to answer this question: "For
these Chinese seagulls that lack imagination and creativity, some methods are
needed to help them to promote imagination and creativity. As I have said, there
have been more than one such methods. But practice has proved and will continue
to prove that the 'comparative method' is indeed an effective method. With the help
of 'comparative method', in all disciplines and in all fields, 'comparison' can be
taken as starting, and to carry out innovation step by step."
"Please explain it in detail again."
A "comparative calligrapher", who already sat nearby and waited for a long
time, after beckoning of Wang Xiaohua Seagull, he came up immediately.
Wang Xiaohua Seagull introduced this comparative calligrapher: "Generally, a
seagull calligrapher can only use one way to write, but he can write in four ways:
keeping the writing brush in the mouth, nipping the writing brush with two wings,
inserting one wing into the cover equipped with brush, and clamping the writing
brush with claw. In addition, the ordinary seagull calligrapher can only write in one
language or two languages, but he can write in more than 10 languages, besides
several different ethnic languages in China, also including English, Russian,
French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and so on."
It is really that the so-called "True expert never work with the manner of hurry
and chaos." This "comparative calligrapher", with the elegant four ways, to write
down the following bilingual couplet in Chinese and English.

The central line of a couplet: Comparative innovation

As enjoying the calligraphy like dragons flying and phoenixes dancing,

Jonathan Seagull was in ecstasies, other drinkers also came up and cheered.
With warm applause, this comparative calligrapher gave the finished couplet to
Jonathan Seagull. In order to express gratitude, Jonathan Seagull hugged him in
the typical manner of Western seagulls, and invited him to visit the United States in
the future.
After sending this comparative calligrapher, Wang Xiaohua Seagull listed other
new examples of reaching innovation through comparison.
"Have you ever heard of 'bean curd banquet' and 'dumpling banquet'?"
"I already ate bean curd and dumpling, but never heard of 'bean curd banquet'
and 'dumpling banquet'."
"As well-known, originally bean curd was an inexpensive food, but from the
Han dynasty, in the Fengshan activities (grand ceremony of worship of heaven on
mountain Tai top to pray and say thanks for peace and prosperity) of successive
dynasties, generally three days in advance, the emperors wanted to show the pious
to 'Heaven' by means of bathing and eating vegetarian dishes. According to
historical records, when the Fengshan activities of Emperor Han-Wu, he ordered to
abstain from meat, wine, and so on; while for Tang-Gaozong, the "fast food"
consisted mainly with bean curd and Chinese cabbage. Later, savvy gourmets and
businessmen, to compare and refer to the feast, created 'bean curd banquet' to
combine the famous dishes cooked by bean curd mainly, and these were enjoyed
by various gourmets. In the menu of 'bean curd banquet', there were as many as

Qianlong emperor tasted this delicious dish, he greatly appreciated and named it as

viewers still wondered, while flying a football in an instant towards the surfboard,
immediately Jonathan kicked off the ball with a pretty "hang upside down golden
hook". Just the time for audiences were stricken to be dumb with amazement, the
Broadcaster Seagull said even more unexpected: "This is a rotating and quick
