of 2017. Most gangs are created by either boredom, the fight to have money to eat and

support for your family. Also, the anger of losing a loved one wanting to retaliate but

wanting the cycle to stop, producing enough money for your next high is extremely

important. Gangs members tell NY Times the reason why gangs are created why they

retaliate. This will be useful to show why gangs are around and the reason or cause for

gang violence.

Social Media Contributes to Gang Violence. Performance by Desmond Patton, Newsy, 2016.

Newsy interviews Professor Desmond Patton on his goal to stop violence and talk upon

what he believes is the issue. Social media plays a big role in gang rivalry as in the

individual or group can post, tweet, and share gang related topics causing them to be a

target on mainly twitter. It takes a simple argument to strike up another conflict between
gangs resolving in death or most likely a teenager in such cases. Professor Patton walks

the streets of chicago and joing ex gangs to help find future targets. This would be useful

to show where the violence is created and where arguments are happening and possibly

the monitoring of sites such as twitter will lower the rate of violence

Tone, Twilight, performer. Put The Guns Down. 2016. Popular artists such as Katie Got Bandz,

King Louie, Common, Lil herb and much more create a track to help the youth or gangs

in communities of Chicago to put the guns down. Chicago radio stations such as 92.3 and

107.5 brought up the movement in 2014 to create a motto "Put the guns down" hoping if

certain music can cause an action of picking up a gun maybe music about putting them

down will make a difference. This will be helpful to show radio stations are wanting to

play music to encourage the stop of gun violence to its listeners.
