Introduction (Ryan talking) 1 minutes

In the last few years, the role of technology in society became more and
more important. Almost all aspects of life are somehow related with
technology. In the household, in form of microwaves and smoke detectors,
at work with computers and printers, or even in the supermarket at the self
checkout, technology is used everywhere. Whether it is beneficial or not is
an often discussed question. An important topic when talking about
technology is communication. For instance, over a billion text messages
are being sent every day. This huge amount of communication using
technology changes our relationships and how we act towards others. Is
that good or bad? Or maybe both? This short documentary will show the
advantages and disadvantages of the massive use of technology today and
show different examples, as well as interviews on that topic.

Good Technology
Technology can optimizing speed and time, providing a better way to store
information, enhancing the sharing of information and providing automation
to tasks that otherwise require extensive human work and calculation.
One of the biggest roles that technology plays is with communication. In
The New York Times article Staying in Touch with Technology by Sam
Grobart, he discuss the ways people can stay in touch with others using
computers and the internet through Skype, email, iChat, and AIM.
The medical advancements have helped us develop vaccines and
treatment for diseases which were previously lethal. Giving birth is not as
dangerous as it used to be.
Technology has allowed humans to travel faster and trade goods all over
the world. Without technology we would still be nomads hunting and
gathering fruits and vegetables.
Because of the advent of the Internet, computers and mobile phones,
people can now work from home and collaborate with teams located in
other towns, countries or even continents.
Thanks to new technologies, alternative forms of entertainment and art
have developed during the last century. Photography, radio, movies,
television shows, music and video games occupy a central spot in people's
lives.
The importance of technology in the development of renewable energies is
evident.Without technological progress it would be difficult to envisage a
green future in which the problem of climate change could be kept under
control. Scientific advancements are making electric cars more affordable
and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of solar and eolic energy, as
well as that hydropower .

Bad Technology
Technology is bad as to how we save certain tasks and this makes our day-
to-day "laziness", we can see it in society right. For example, you dont
have to move from your couch to buy a car.
We can say that technology is bad considering that it often separates us
from the family environment. Sometimes because we are locked in our
world of television, phone, internet and many other things we put away
other important aspects of our life. This is an action that we can later regret.
Patience is a very valuable virtue and it is something very necessary to
survive the difficulties of life. According to one study , the patience in the
children disappears partly due to the use of videogames: for example, they
are frustrated quickly when the web that they want to visit takes too long to
load. Another aspect is safety. The more technology we have, the more
dangerous it becomes. Many crimes are being committed on the Internet,
theft, stalking, fraud and much mure are either organized or even executed
on the computer. People tend to give personal information to strangers or
untrustworthy and unprofessional web sites. All that we must consider
when using computers and phones.

How do you use technology? When?
Is technology good or bad? Why? Examples for support your view
Are there special events that convinced you?
What do you think could be improved?
Do you have any advice for others with less knowledge?

Conclusion 2 minutes
The youth today are becoming more and more attached to their technology.
But is technology good or bad for society? We found that there really is not
one right answer, almost everything which can be used for good things can
also be used for bad things, the answer will be determined by the user. This
means that a lot of people in the world are faced with the choice of using
this technology to either hurt or help society. It can hurt you if for you is
more important the technology than you own family or friends. But on other
hand, technology can help you in your everyday life making it easier.
During the interviews we conducted we got two people who work with
computers for work to give us their opinion on if technology is good or bad.
In our first interview Paula talked to her mother, she studied math and
computer science and has worked as an IT professional for about 12 years
she is now a teacher and teaches for both of her subjects. She uses her
computer for her job to prepare exercises to teach, online shopping, and
reading. She says that technology has simplified life and used the example
of not having to do laundry by hand. (Ryan Interview)
In summary, with our research we discovered many things about
technology, we listened to differents opinions and we read many articles
from experts but we are still thinking that technology has a good and a bad
side, like most things in life.
