3. Describe in words and by equations the set of points in space where


the graph of the function f (x, y) = x2 y 2 + 1 is perpendicular to a
level surface of the function g(x, y, z) = xy z 2 .

4. Let D be a solid described in spherical coordinates by the inequalities

a) Sketch and describe D in words.

5. Consider the region R in the plane enclosed by x = 0, y = 1 and y = x2 .

c) Compute the flux across each component of the boundary.

6. Find and classify all critical points of f (x, y) = x4 + y 4 4xy + 1. Find
its absolute min/max in the domain x4 + y 4 32.

7. Find the points on the surface 2x2 + y 2 = (z 2)2 that are


a) closest to the origin and
b) furthest from the origin.

8. Let R be the solid 3-dimensional region given by the inequalities


2 x 2, 2 y 2, 0 z 2 and 1 x2 + y 2 + z 2 .
Let the surface S be the boundary of R.
a) Draw and describe in words R and S.
b) Calculate the outward flux of the vector field F(x, y, z) = (y 2, x2 , z 2 )
through S.

9. Let C1 be the semicircle given by z = 0, y 0, x2 + y 2 = 1 and C2 the


semicircle given by y = 0, z 0, x2 + z 2 = 1. Let C be the closed curve
formed by C1 and C2 . Let F = hy + 2y 2, 2x + 4xy + 6z 2 , 3x + ey i.
a) Draw the curve C. Choose an orientation of C and mark it clearly
on the picture.
