Lesson: BC Joins Confederation Time: 49 minutes

Whiteboard Markers
Popsicle Sticks
Workbook
PowerPoint
Preparation:
Make sure that photocopying is done ahead of time
Make sure sound is on for video clips
Adaptations:
Let students have extra time if they need it
Lesson Procedure:
(Use numbered or bulleted steps. Indicate lesson introduction, development and
conclusion to clarify the flow of the lesson. Write it with enough detail that a substitute
teacher could teach the lesson.)
- Introduction: introduce the agenda for the day
- Welcome Mrs. Prawdzik (7E)
- Finish reading BC Joins Confederation
- 2-Sides Activity:
o Once done reading this section, student have to decide if they think BC
joining Confederation had a positive impact on the lives of First Nations
living in BC (this is what they will be doing for their chapter 10 project)
o They will move to either the positive or negative side of the room
o Call on a student from each side to explain why they went there
- Workbook for the remainder of class
- Conclusion: Tomorrow well start learning about when PEI joined Confederation

How will you know if students met your lesson objectives? What assessment tool or
strategy are you using? What are you looking for in this formative assessment?

Formative assessment = Students should be engaged in the conversation and participate


in the class discussion. Students will also need to participate in the 2-sides activity. They
should also finish the first section of the workbook.
