Macbeth ICTW Rewrite
Shakespearean language is much different than English today is. For this reason, the use of

figurative language is very important to assist the reader in their understanding of the deep meanings of

the play. In his tragedy set in the 11th century, Macbeth, Shakespeare uses similes and a soliloquy to

demonstrate an affectionate relationship between the Macbeths.

The similes used allow a deeper understanding understanding of how the couple feels toward

each other. In the passage, Lady Macbeth tells her husband that, Your face, my thane, is as a book

where men may read strange matters.(Shakespeare, I.V. 73-74). With this, it is apparent that she knows

and loves macbeth very much and can recognize immediately that he is acting and feeling unusual. The

expression of their familiarity with one another shows the immense amount of love Macbeth and lady

macbeth have for each other, and it also expresses the respect that lady macbeth has for her husband by

addressing him as Thane. While with good intentions, Lady macbeth definitely wears the pants in the

relationship. By telling macbeth to, Look like the innocent flower, But be the serpent

undert(shakespeare,1) her dominance is expressed. She knows Macbeth well and believes that He

needs her coaching in order to live up to his word.

The use of a soliloquy spoken by Lady Macbeth to herself, allows insight for the reader on what

Macbeths bride thinks of him shortly before their first interactions with each other in the book. She is

confident that he Shalt be what promised: yet do I fear thy nature,(Shakespeare, I.V.17) but she is not as

confident in his ability to commit murder of someone he is loyal towards. She is proud of him and wants

him to have the power that he deserves. He trusts her even after being gone for a long amount of time,

and shares with her his plan. With this news, she doubts her husbands willingness, but not once his

bravery or ambition. She is aware that he is Not without ambition, but without the illness should attend
it,(Shakespeare, I.V.20-21)but that after being praised by King Duncan, he will not be willing to follow

the plans. She adopts the job of ensuring that the murder is commited.

The bond between the couple is very strong and, even though it doesnt always seem so, full of

love and appreciation. Macbeths love and admiration for his wifes strength and courage fuel his

ambition and allow him to reach his position as king. His wife is the first person he wants to share his

intentions with and the first that he wants to turn to when he realizes the horror of what he has done.

Macbeths admiration and affection for his wife, and hers for him, is greater than any evil thoughts in

their head.
