Information: The Town of Clinchco is a small, rural community that started out as a coal town.
There is significant poverty due to the decline in the coal industry and Clinch would like to
utilize the VFC program to make a positive impact in community members lives. The
population of the town is around two-hundred and fifty people currently.

Service Needed: Students will assist individual families with their homes by completing minor
housing rehabilitation projects such as repairing porches, installing floors, painting, and basic
yardwork). IN addition, students will have the opportunity to complete community-wide projects
such as a community clean-up, retaining wall, and painting a mural.

Accommodations: Students will be housed at the Town Hall. There is a large and small room for
students to sleep in/use as a common space. A shower is provided on-site with cots and a kitchen
area. Students will need to bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.

Food: Dinner is provided by community members, and will likely be used as leftovers for
lunches. Cereal, salad mixes, bread, deli meats, and condiments will be bought and stored in the
kitchen for students use. Drinks provided are milk, juice, and water.

Travel: There are many opportunities for students to explore the surrounding area, including
scenic areas and a national park. There were dances in the surrounding towns that students are
welcome to attend. These take anywhere from 15 minutes to around an hour (the mountains wind
a lot), though there is a local museum and park within walking distance.
